Woodstock Steak and Pizza

Description

Open since 1971, Woodstock is one of Canberra's popular and well-known places. Located on the main walking thoroughfare through Civic, it is easy to find. The decor is modern with seating inside and out. The atmosphere is vibrant, and tables are cosy. Dining outside is livened by the hustle and bustle of the city folk. Be tempted by seafood, pasta, veal, chicken or salad. However the main drawcard for diners is the famous steaks and pizzas such as the Virgo Pizza.

best surf n turf
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/5/07
Beautiful steaks (especially the surf n turf)and always busy, that can affect the service sometimes but better than going to an empty restaurant with no atmosphere.

Where esle would you go??
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/28/06
Woodstock has been my favourite place to eat for over ten years. As for value for money, if someone else can tell me a 'better value for money' place to go, please let me know - I for one understand that restaurant prices run in accordance with everything else, and I have tried just about every other restaurant in the city and nothing compares. It finally looks like they are doing some refurbishments which I hope does not take away from the Canberra icon that it still is - and as for the service, anyone who complains obviously doesn't eat out anywhere else! Top points still after all these years.

Nice place, I'll go back there
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/1/06
I've been there about three times now, and it hasnt been as dirty and horrid as the other reviews. I really like it. The food is supurb; Pizza Pizzaz has huge chunks of white tasty chicken, Kiev is a favourite of my friends, and garlic bread is great. The only downsides are the cost (a little pricey, save it more for the special occasion) and the service can be a little slow, as the place is usually packed. I'll go back there if invited, or looking for a good night out with friends

Completely Gone Downhill
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/6/06
After growing up attending family dinners at this great place i expected FAR more than what happened to me last night. THe ambiance has completely gone, the surroundings are awful and the quality of cleanliness is horrid. After finishing most of my meal i then discovered a cockroach in the middle of my plate. Now normally you would expect management to jump all over it straight away and go into damage control. No such thing happened. The waiter said "oy yeah thats gross, i will get back to you on that one." After having to ask what was going on with it another gentlemen came to the table and said, "you can get your meal free and whole table discount" - i thanked him however no manager even seemed to care, the chefs then stared at me for the rest of the evening as if i had brought along my own cockroach and we were generally treated terribly. I would not recommend this place to anyone. After asking around, the general consensus is that the place used to be almost an icon, and it has completely lost it all.

Woodstock - resting on its laurels
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/1/05
While Woodstock is considered a Canberra institution for its steak and pizza, I must say that it does not live up to its hype. The restaurant was filthy!! Floors dirty, two live cockroaches near the front door and fruit flies circling overhead. The service was very slack. Forgotten drinks only arrived when we asked another server to find out what happened 15 minutes after ordering. The food was adequate at best. The pizza was terrible - the crust thin to the point of rubbery, tasteless sauce, and cheese that was nowhere close to being mozzarella. A steak ordered medium-well arrived raw in the centre, and when recooked could barely be considered medium. (And it was no bargain either.) A child's order of spaghetti Bolognese arrived cold. Needless to say, we won't be going back.
