Whiskey Gully Wines
Description
Severnlea is the name of a dry watercourse on one of the Granite Belt's original pastoral properties. Years ago, Irish miners digging for tin used it to operate an illegal still for their whiskey, hence the name of the winery. At Whiskey Gully they grow the red grapes shiraz and cabernet sauvignon and the white chardonnay grape. There is also an up-market restaurant and two cottages next to the vines. This Stanthorpe Granite Belt area produces some great wines, owing to the very cold nights in winter. People are surprised by this as Queensland is known for delightfully warm weather.
