Captain Lueys is by far my favorite seafood restaurant to eat at in battle creek. Service was good. Restaurant is always clean. Food is always excellent, the cooks do a amazing job! I always recommend captain lueys to everyone. Plus the ice is the best in town.
the food here has always been very good and prices are reasonable. the only improvements would be on service. we have had some great service as well as those who act as if they don't give a damn. I don't know if it's training or personality. to be fair, poor service has been the exception, not the rule. I would recomend this place
I visited this restaurant after reading the reviews on Yahoo. They were right, but did not mention the slightly higher price than one might expect. Also was not as kid oriented as I had perceived. Food was good. Good sized portions. Wife and kids all could have gotten kids meals. They are also portioned large. I do not recommend the cole slaw, it is very dry and tasteless. I had cod, fries, green beans. Good choice. The free hushpuppies are wonderful. The ranch dressing they use is fantastic, I preferred it to the tartar sauce, although it was just fine. I would also recommend the Arnold palmer drink, it was great. We were visiting from out of town and would only come here again if seafood was really what we were craving and weren't choosing by price.
I do admit that the service was great at Captain Luey's and I assume that the food is good as well. However, and even though the staff was very understanding, I am extremely allergic to shellfish. When it is fried with everything else, it ellimates almost the entire menu for me. When I am going out to eat with a group of people and they would like to go there, I either have to deline or not eat anything. Several people have the same problem that I do and it is difficult. I believe all restaurants should fry shrimp separate from the other food otherwise it eliminates the experience for many.
Just the best seafood I've ever tasted! The shrimp is fantastic and the clams rival those from New England. If you live in Michigan and want to taste what people near the ocean have for seafood, this is the place!
