Sakura Japanese Restaurant
The Sakura restaurant incorporates a new dimension to eating out; do it yourself! Unique to Sakura from Monday to Thursday is the Temaki, where the chef serves you raw fish, vegetables and seaweed paper and you roll your own sushi with whatever you want. There are set meals for a larger group at reasonable prices (AUD36-AUD48) and the restaurant is perfectly situated only five minutes from the city. The menu is so extensive, deciding what to order is quite a challenge.
My partner and I are frequent visitors to this restaurant and it is the best Japanese food that I have had outside Japan! It is always full of Japanese families. The service is a little hit-and-miss with regards to efficiency, but they are always friendly and being almost exclusively Japanese very knowledgeable.
It is very easy to find (situated near a very busy intersection in Highgate Hill) and while there is very little parking, it is in a mostly residential area so it is easy enough to find free parking nearby as long as you dont mind walking a few hundred metres.
This is my absolute favorite place to eat and I strongly recommend it to anyone looking for unpretentious, fresh, tasty and authentic Japanese food in Brisbane.
ps: The sashimi is my favorite.
