The outback opal-mining town of Coober Pedy provides the best tourism experience! And award-winning Umoona is the "best of the best." This free museum divulges some of the "nature" of this special town and the opal showroom exudes sophistication--unexpected in such an environment. Daily guided tours take in an Aboriginal Interpretive Centre, underground homes, a working opal mine with an opal-cutting demonstration, and pictorial displays. Mementos of the area include movies, such as "Mad Max 3: Beyond The Thunderdome" and "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert."
