Cafe Salsa

Description

This restaurant offers Italian fare catering for a young, mainly Italian clientele in a Californian-style setting. A large pergola covered with palm-tree thatch leads into the glass-walled restaurant. The outdoor setting is great for summer evenings, while indoors is cosy for rainy nights. Garlic, wine, lemon, chilli and olive oil enhance dishes of salmon, seafood and veal. Entrees include the delicious Funghi del Bosco (field mushrooms steamed in garlic, wine and onion, then chargrilled). Try Saltimbocco (pan fried veal with proscuitto, wine and sage). Pastas and pizzas also share these sensual Mediterranean flavours, as do Italian wines.

Extremely Bad Restaurant
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/23/10
What a complete joke of a Restaurant. Chef and staff completely rude and obnoxious. Meal ok! But had to wait nearly 2 hrs for it.. Abused by Chef/owner upon disagreement of Bill, as all 12 of us were unhappy with service.. Will be delivering unhappy MSG to everyone I know.

Fantastic.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/4/09
Well worth a visit! Any time of the year! Great food, great people, great time! Myself and the other half went down for dinner and the staff were brilliant. The place is always busy but you never seem to wait too long for your order. First class!

boring food, scary chef
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/7/09
The most recent visit to Salsa was appalling. The staff were all on edge and distracted because the chef was going mental in the kitchen. The entire time we were there he screamed at the kitchen and floor staff and crashed the pans about. The noise was almost constant, and completely wrecked the evening. I have been to Salsa a number of times over the past six years and it just seems to be getting worse. The menu doesn't seem to have changed at all in this time. The restaurant has its location going for it, but seemingly little else. Our meals took ages even though the restaurant was only a quarter full and we arrived and ordered early. Used to recommend the place, now I recommend against it.

Never going back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/22/06
Food was very average and too expensive ($29) for bland fish with a salad (bowl of lettuce). Service was atrocious - waited with empty plates in front of us for nearly an hour. When we tried to get a drink we were ignored. The group of us are in the customer service industry and while it was busy the staff were ill equipped to cope - no apology and infact she was rude.....learned probably from the chef who was also rude when we asked to clarify an ingredient (due to allergy) We will not be going back and have warned our friends, which is a shame as the setting is lovely. There are plenty of better places along the seafront - try one of them!!

Perfect!!
By Robby, 10/3/05
We came to Cafe Salsa with a large group on what appeared to be a relatively busy Wednesday night. Usually, with a group of 30+, either the group suffers or the other diners suffer, but neither was the case on this spectacular evening. The full menu was made available and the service was downright stellar, and interactive as well. With most of us being American, we were pleased with the menus offerings which include regional, pan-pacific and inter-continental cuisine. I had the Kangaroo steak and it was fabulous. I think between everyone in our group, pretty much every menu item was ordered with nary a complaint. We dined at a leisurely pace and lingered on their wonderful patio drinking our wine. Rather than rush us out, we were actually encouraged to hang around and soak up the evening (which we did!). Between appetizers and dinner we stepped out onto the sidewalk to watch the sunset on the ocean. I think they must have planned this! The dining room is a bit small, so I recommend visiting on a night when you can sit on the patio comfortably. The atmosphere is sophisticated, the food is serious, but the theme is casual. A great place to go with friends. For me, this has become a definite must-visit whenever I'm in Adelaide.
