Pioneer Square is Seattle's oldest neighborhood, and it wasn't always a pleasant place to visit. The Underground Tour takes visitors around Pioneer Square above ground and also to a hidden Seattle that now lies underground. About 25 square blocks of Pioneer Square have hollow spaces under the sidewalks, thanks to peculiarities of the reconstruction after the great Seattle fire of 1889. Cash and traveler's checks only are accepted. ATM is on-site.

What happened to the tour?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/03/09
I've brought out of town family to this tour many times but NEVER again. The price has gone way up, the talent way down. The gift shop is full of crap (candy and boring shirts) that I could get anywhere. The whole place feels like a greedy trap now. Too bad, this used to a real gem in Seattle

Learning about Old Seattle
By don_rhonda, 08/24/09
Interesting. Involves walking up and down stairs and uneven levels. (FYI for those with children or handicapped)

Well worth the time and money
By StephanieW, 08/29/08
This tour starts with a 20 minute history of the city, with a 90 minute tour of the underground with a very entertaining tour guide. This was a great way to see and learn about Seattle's downtown. Well worth the time and money, and would recommend to anyone!

Greedy tour and Leave the kids at home
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/15/08
The tour started off with brief history and comedy. The female guide was the only entertainment of the tour. Our tour guide looked like an alcoholic just strolling out of the bar. Our group had kids as young as 3 and as old as 12. His jokes and comments far from appropriate! So bottom line...there's a tour every hour from 12-6, roughly 100 people, 14.00 per ticket, mashed into groups of 45 per tour guide.

Humorous, historical tour
By Laura, 07/09/08
The tour guides were very entertaining and the history discussed was relevant and interesting. I can't say the sites were fantastic, and they could have talked a little bit more about certain aspects of Seattle's history, but overall, very enjoyable walking tour.

Sexist Jokes? Prudes!
By Mourgos, 05/20/08
The tour guides were very funny. If you don't have a sense of humor and don't get what people are saying when they're sarcastic, then please don't go and ruin the tour for everyone else. Some of these one-star reviews are for the birds. Anyway, we saw the largest erection in the west coast, saw the Seattle of yesteryear with its sewer problematic history, fascinating history of the bawdy lumberjacks and seamstresses (prostitutes) that had that industry all "sewn up." If you got the jokes above, then that's a taste of what you will get. Prudes need not apply, thanks.

Waste of time and money
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/31/08
The guides told rude jokes, didn't know very much about Seattle. Basically you pay 14 bucks a person to be led through a couple peoples basements where it smells nasty and some places have puddles. It's actually not a very long tour in terms of length. We ended up wanting the guide to hurry up and finish so we could go and do something fun in Seattle... maybe go to the Klondike Gold Rush Museum... someplace where we can have fun and learn about old Seattle.

What a Joke!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/03/08
The tour guide knew little except to tell sexist and racist jokes and very little history. Go ahead... walk through a few lousy basements and then step out into an alley where "the puddles are there even when it doesn't rain". Trapped in a basement listening to some bitter person tell you how a few big companies that made Seattle great are just the evil of the world is a waste of $14.

The guides drove us crazy...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/18/08
Although filled with interesting information about Seattle's history, the Underground tour was overall a disappointment. Several guides told horrible jokes and herded the many tourists like cattle through the underground sections. The whole group found ourselves checking our watches and rolling our eyes. Time would be better spent reading a book about Seattle's history from the library.

What's with the price?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/08/07
Tour was better a few years ago. They have jacked the price way up, no more music at Doc Maynard (although they have never bothered to updated that on the web site), we couldn't get the drink special, and our guide was so boring. I won't be taking anymore quests to this tour.
