Five Mile Lake
Some people view Federal Way as a place to fill the tank while driving between Seattle and Tacoma. Such people make the mistake of overlooking the city's many treasures, not least of which is this wonderful 27-acre park, which includes the Five Mile Lake itself, popular with both swimmers and fishermen. Ample tennis and baseball facilities plus dozens of barbecue areas surround the water. A trail system winds through the park's dense woods. It opens daily from 8a.
The lake has a peat bottom that produces the warm water and the odd color. It does not contain anything toxic, and the park and lake are used for Triathlons in the summer. They test the lake prior to triathlons to assure there aren't high levels of bacteria. No lifeguards. There is fishing and the lake is stocked in the spring.
The park requires reservations for groups over 35- not just at the shelters. (2 shelters and a canopy) There is a concession stand that opens on nice days but the park gets way too crowded when it's hot.
The reason its redish is because the water has minerals in it that are good for the skin. There is nothing toxic in it and its perfectly safe for swiming other than there is no lifegaurds. But, othere than that its is fun for hanging out with friends and family. The lake also has a dock , me and my friends always jump off of it. It is pretty fun.
I love to go to Five Mile Lake. It's not always crowded (except when it's really, really hot) there is lots to do and the lake is beautiful. I love to have parties here. You can always count on seeing an eagle or an osprey too! I love 5 mile lake!
for us, five mile lake is the place to go to throw birthdays and have a little fun playing volleyball! there is a lot of room for all kinds of sports, they have a baseball field, tennis, basketball and a whole bunch more! i really like spending my time at the five mile lake!
