Seattle Art Museum

Description

Seattle Art Museum is internationally recognized for its excellent collection of Asian, African and Native American art and for its fine collection of modern art produced by Pacific Northwest artists. The permanent collection includes 21,000 pieces and while it doesn't have huge collections of European art, it does have plentiful local art and wonderful visiting exhibits. The museum is centrally located downtown near the waterfront and Pike Place Market .

Art Wonderful Guards Rude and Offensive
By ,
Today, I went to the Seattle Museum of art. The art was beautiful and tasteful and exquisitely laid out. However, some of the guards were offensive, intimidating, and rude. I managed to avoid any confrontation with them by meticulously ignoring their confrontational behavior. One guard followed me out of the gallery. I was wearing a Herringbone suit, with dress pants, and dress shoes. I was, also, wearing a miniature military award and rosettes indicative of my membership in certain hereditary societies. Most of the other patrons were dressed much more informally. I suggest that, given the aforementioned, the museum is somewhat declase.

Excelent Art

The part I liked most about this museum are the hallways. There is always something to look at but even if your looking you aren't getting over stimulated.

Art's of the Great
By ,
This museum held one of the best selection's I've ever seen in 2005. Although I cannot find the sculpture of a Saint I would've liked to have seen Displayed here. Their 1300 Era collection is one that has got to be seen over and over! Stunning Display. Nice, Clean, Quiet place to enjoy arts of the past, and present. And I hear they have a new design in progress! This place is one to visit where ever you are from! and the Warhol pieces gave it a Modern Touch.

SAM under construction
By ,
While the downtown SAM is under construction and not open during same, the Volunteer Park SAAM (Seattle Asian Art Museum) is home to temporary exhibitions from SAAM permanent collection and the downtown SAM art glass collection. A sampler of high-tech mixed media installations are also present. A fine example of Art Deco/Depression Modern architecture, SAAM sits atop Capitol Hill area and commands a great view of lower Seattle harbor. Nearby Conservatory (glass & ironwork home of botanical exhibits and humming birds in flight) was unexpected bonus to the Museum trip. Great lawn and trees, Japanese lily pond surround the SAAM building. Recommended if you like great Asian antiquities and contemporary glass masterpieces.

Interesting and Educational
By ,
A must see for those of us who claim the pacific Northwest as our home. Parking is a bit of a problem, although we did get lucky and get a reasonable spot with-in a few blocks. The first couple of floors were nice; However, we should have went directly to the fourth floor, where the really interesting older art and paintings are displayed.

Ethnic Experience
By ,
I absolutely love to go to the Seattle Art Museum, they always have the most wonderful displays of art from around the world, and plus they honor the Native Cultures of North America as well. The last time I was there, I saw the most amazing African art display of masks, jewelry, and pictures of the people from the tribe in West Africa that loaned their pieces to be displayed by the Seattle Art Museum. There was even a speaker from the tribe as well. A wonderful place to learn about the people around us in the world, and in our own state.
