Woodland Park Rose Garden
No, this isn't the zoo, although the zoo is indeed smack in the middle of this park, which lives up to its nameWoodland Park Rose Garden with 188 acres of towering deciduous forest and rolling lawns. It also offers tennis courts, playfields and picnic areas on its east side near Green Lake, and shrubbery-shrouded meadows on its west side on Phinney Avenue North. In the center, by one of the zoo entrances, is the park's beloved rose garden. The high-walled space is crammed with dozens of different hybrids, tea roses and climbers.
The peacefulness of this All-American Rose Selection test garden is enhanced by the wonderful perfume of roses. Enclosed by fences draped with climbing roses of every color, there are miniatures, hybrid tea roses, bush roses, tree roses and a large test garden for the All-American test varieties. If a few drops of rain fall, rest in the gazebo as you take in the garden. There is ample parking, free when the zoo isn't open, and the garden itself is free. What's not to like? It's worth visiting many times.
