Farrel-McWhirter Park, this beautiful 68-acre place is situated on what once was a farm, is the brilliant inspiration of some now-forgotten Redmond City Council member. Its first, and most outwardly visible, portion is the tall stand of trees with benches where you can snack. Nestled within that is a small pet zoo perfect for the budding farmer or animal lover in your family. Trails meet up with the Puget Power/City of Redmond Trail for miles of walking, running or mountain biking.
Farrel McWhirter is a great place for a weekend picnic, a walk through the woods, or group gatherings. It has a few farm animals including pigs, ducks, goats, sheep, rabbits, and of course, ponies. The Park provides a variety of Pony Programs for ages 2-14, all of which I found to be well planned and provide the children with a safe, exciting experience. I would highly suggest the summer horse camp; my daughter couldn't stop talking about her pony, Pepsi. The instructors were extremely knowledgeable, fun, and were willing to answer any and all questions i had about the ponies, the camp, or the park itself. The volunteers who helped in the pony programs were also a great addition; they were responsible and happy to be there. Summer is probably the most enjoyable season at the park, but early fall can be quite stunning as well. The Park also has two outdoor horse arenas and miles of walking/hiking/riding trails.
I love the animals and the history of the park. The horse corral is great. I love all the trails and my dogs love the fields. My son had a great time there anytime we go. He usually throws a dit when we leave.
