For 150 years the Virginia Historical Society has been collecting portraits, manuscripts and artifacts. These include the largest collection of Confederate-made weapons in the world. Semi-permanent exhibits include "The Story of Virginia, an American Experience" and "The Seasons of the Confederacy."
Extensive collection and well planned displays. Detailed enough for the history buff, but with educational games and questions that are interesting for older elementary or middle school aged children. Focuses a lot on Richmond and could benefit from expanding to include more information on other parts of Virginia, but overall well worth a visit for residents and out-of-town visitors.
