Shockoe Slip is the city's oldest mercantile district and was once the site of the State Capitol building. This area has been a bustling hub since the 17th century. Though the earliest buildings here were destroyed during the Civil War, original cobblestones and structures dating from 1868-1888 make this beautiful and historic area a perfect place for sightseeing. Shockoe also offers shopping, dining and entertainment.
love shockoe bottom! its a hip young crowd, eclectic stores and great restaurants and bars... most shops are way better than any chain retailer and the restaurants not only have better food, but staff dedicated to serving you (not just trying to working their shift). this is definitely a safe place, but dont be stupid and leave your car unlocked! parking would be the only difficult part... be careful and make sure you read all the parking signs along the curb ... there are a lot of parking permits required.
It was a brief stop at Bottoms Up Pizza thanks to a previous review. The area was quite slow since it was a Sunday morning/lunch. But as we walked out there were many pedestrians and no parking space.
The pizza(Karen's Combo) was rich in taste but quite oily. Very thick and mouthful.
Took some interesting pictures and saw a daily/flee(not sure) market being formed. When I have a chance, I may visit again.
The Shockoe Bottom neighborhood of Richmond is a great place to find restaurants that are not your run of the variety. I live in a college town in PA that is full of chain restaurants, so on a visit to Richmond, found this area very refreshing. My husband and I especially enjoyed the Old City Bar Restaurant, the food is great and the atmosphere can't be beat! The restaurant just began brewing their own beer - it is awesome!!! If you have a chance to visit this restaurant... do yourself a favor and go! Don't forget to have a pint of Pete's Killer Wheat!!!
Shockoe Slip is a really neat place to visit esp. if you are hungary for Pizza. They have the best Pizza ever. There Mexican pizza is to die for. Glad they have re-opened planning to visit there again soon. The Vegatable market is nice as well.
Stayed in Richmond for two weeks for training and ventured to "The Slip" almost every night. Great pubs, Capital Ale House, Tobacco Co. ,Tap House Grill, Hard Shell and I could go on and on. Reminded me a lot like Back Bay in Boston. Great Place!!!!
