Fountain Bookstore contains many books about Richmond and the surrounding areas that are hard to find elsewhere. Topics include Thomas Jefferson and other famous Virginians, slavery, life in the old South, plantation homes, and other attractions. Diaries and novels written by Virginians and other southerners before and after the Civil War are plentiful here as well. Greeting cards, art books, photography books and a good selection of contemporary authors are also available. There is a small secondhand section in the store as well.
We were cold, we were tired and my wife wanted a book to read back at the hotel that evening. Like all good things in life we stumbled across Fountain Bookstore completely by accident on a Monday afternoon in early November.
It was warm. It was welcoming and it was friendly with a wide selection of books. What was even better was that there were a couple of well placed chairs near the shelves on creative writing where I could sit and flick through a tome or two while the present Mrs Russell looked for a book to read.
Fountain do not serve coffee or cakes to the potential purchaser like the big chains. When we left with our purchases we felt that not only had we made friends with our books but also friends with Fountain Bookstore.
Would always recommend this place to a friend.
