Tobacco Company Club (The)
Live music plays most nights in the first floor bar of this historic Shockoe Slip warehouse restaurant. The basement club is alive with music and dancers and the top two floors offer dining in a delightful atmosphere. Lovely antiques including an elaborate iron elevator, stained glass and 19th-century tobacco advertisements fill this entertainment complex. A marvelous Sunday brunch, one of the top dessert tables in town and delectable entrees can all be found at the Tobacco Company. The dinner menu includes prime rib with seconds on the house.
Food, service and decor. The menu was wonderful. Sunday brunch was simply delightful, including the cinnamon buns. Loved taking the old Otis elevator to the 2nd floor for dining. The exposed beams in the warehouse added ambience. Live plants were beautiful and very rich looking. This was a very pleasant surprise for us inasmuch as it was our first visit to this area of Richmond -- we are "newbies" from New Jersey. We enjoyed the live music. Overall experience was great and we are looking for to many more wonderful dining experiences at the Tobacco Company.
The place had plenty of available tables but nonetheless we were seated next to a family with noisy toddlers. They left, and ten minutes later another family with noisy kids were seated next to us. The food was OK, but we expected a lot better than OK for the prices they charge. It took about a half hour to get a drink refill, they ran out of what we were drinking, then brought us beers that had gone skunky. Finally, adding insult to injury, they brought us the check without asking and gave us the old "bum's rush". There are plenty of places in town that appreciate your buisiness. Try one of them instead of The Tobacco Company.
I took a vendor to lunch..just the two of us..no huge crowd. It took 15 minute to get the waiter to stop by and offer to get us water and another set of silverware..then it was the manager who finally tracked down the waiter. 45 minutes later..the food arrives - yep you got it COLD. We ordered two hot sandwiches. Then I discover my iced tea glass is cracked. Fortunately the cost of the meal was on them, unfortunately we'll not use the restaurant again as a luncheon spot to take the out of town vendors.
It is a little expensive but it is worth every penny. When you are finished eating, go for a stroll and walk down by the river and make a wish at the fountain. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was so good. I cannot wait to go back!
I have to admit that I was a little scared about going since I saw some not very nice reviews in this site but thanks to a good friend I followed her recommendation. No regret at all !
Excellent restaurant, I ordered beef and it was above my expectations. The Ambiance... wordless. It was my first time in Richmond but I consider myself a very demanding customer who has been able to try good food around the world.
After dinner, the bar offered a good variety of drinks with very affordable prices.
In overall, a must go !
Thank you Justin, you were a wonderful host. My lunch w/salad and Tea was a perfect tender medium as I like it. While the tea was a bit oversweet[my fault] the correction was simple and pain free. My wife had a burger and fries and she smiled...she never smiles..Folks their dinner menu looks great, they have a band in the evening..this place is fun. Try the Key Lime Pie!
It is a highly over-rated bit of mediocraty. The food was passable, but nothing better than a Golden Corrall. We had to wait for over half an hour even though we had reservations, the servers seemed to think that they were doing us a favor, and it took us forever just to get a bill. Go across the street to the Berkley. The food there is fabulous and the wait staff is cordial and attentive.
Visiting here is like eating comfort food on a "Happy Days" set. The colorful tile counter is a very comfortable
place to dine alone; customers and employees are friendly and conversational. River City is a great place to go ...
