Proud of its inexpensive lift tickets, long-held ski traditions and ski-anywhere policy, Alta Ski Area is a favorite among Salt Lake City locals. Although snowboarding is not allowed and slower lifts can lengthen holiday lift lines, locals prefer the resort for its high-altitude powder and pine-covered alpine terrain. Beginners praise the high percentage of easy runs, while advanced skiers appreciate the ski-anywhere policy. Check website for prices and further details.

Sorry shred heads! Alta is the ultimate for skiers only. There is a terrain match for every skier level. The mountain scenery is spectacular. We came out here for the first time in 2000, bought a condo in Sandy, at the mouth of the canyon, in 2004 and have skied all the resorts in this area. Alta is definately the favorite. The best people, the most and the best snow. Ok, so the food in the lodge cafeterias isn't that great, a local secret is lunch in the dining room of the Alta Lodge, can't beat the views of High Rustler either.

Alta
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/21/04
I came to Alta to ski for a season in 1998 and haven't been able to leave. The area has great beginner runs as well as fantastic expert runs. If you love great snow conditions and the deepest driest powder (500" of the stuff each year) then I will see you on the mountain. If you only go to the mountains to be seen, this is probably not the place for you.
Stay at the Goldminer's Daughter Lodge which is right at the base of the Collins and Wildcat lifts. Rooms are comforable, food is awesome and you can be the first in line everyday.
