Utah State Wine Store

Description

Across from The Bakery you will find over a 1000 wine varieties in approximately 30,000 bottles. Since Utah liquor laws prevent hard alcohol from being sold anywhere else (such as grocery stores), this is the place to come. Categorized by country of origin or by color, such as Cabarnets and Merlots, you are sure to find what you are looking for. The knowledgeable staff will help you decipher the different tastes and which wine might be right for you. A small selection of imported beers is also available here.

This is Utah..
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/28/11
I like the store ok, for Utah, but unfortunately Utah liquor is expensive because the church wants to cash in on this "sin".

Hours are terrible
By M, 5/13/10
As a recent transplant from out of state, it disgusts me that liquor store hours close so early, 7pm. When one is busy during the day, comes home to eat dinner, then leaves to run errands such as buy a bottle of wine and the store is already closed, it is extraordinarily frustrating. It is well known that Utah is known for being behind most other states in liquor laws, but when are they going to realize that they need to get with the times? I am not saying this is a bad store, I actually received great service here but I wish the hours were more convenient for those who don't revolve around the 'typical resident of Utah' lifestyle.

not ideal
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/12/08
Ok it is Utah. They have a good selection for your basic consumer. But spend REAL money here???? heaven help you. UTAH is dry and HOT in summer and dry and cold in winter. Heat and a lack of humidity are wine killers as is light. This store is warm- down right hot in summer, it's also lit like walmart... Chose from the bottom of the racks. Buy wines that drink young. The people that run this place obviously know about wine. Shame on them.

The Wine Muse Hasn't Forgotten Salt Lake
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/30/07
We just moved her from California and are use to finding an easy and inexpensive supply of wine. Although the prices aren't as cheap, the State Wine Store does provide a wide variety of values. I liked that they had some $3 bottles at the back that were all right for a humble dinner. They had a wide variety of wines to choose from and a knowlegeable staff. They'd even heard of an Australian wine I'd tried once and loved called "Whoop Whoop" (sp?). I wish they had a wine store nearer to my home but I'm glad to know that there is, at least, some oasis of wine acceptance and knowledge. Thank you wine muse.

Paradoxical wine paradise
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/29/07
This store is just another exampe of the paradoxical reputation of Salt Lake and the excellent food, wine and microbrewed beer that's readily available. As another reviewer mentioned, you can't buy wine in a grocery store. OK this is an inconvenience but it also makes shopping for wine more of an "occassion" or at least elevates it above, "let's see: toilet paper: check, milk: check, cheap bottle of wine: check." So it doesn't carry every label that's available in some markets. If you don't see the wine you typically buy at the corner 7-11 in Stockton, try one of the other 2,500 labels that it does carry. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and can make recommendations for every taste including what goes well with New Zealand lamb, tomatoe and mayonaise sandwiches or beans on toast.

Decent Store.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/19/07
This is a good store. The organization on the products is good. It has a great selection of wines and I am happy for Salt Lake. However it is still a pain to get wine here.
