Rio San Antonio Cruises
Hop aboard one of the city's river barges and take a 40-minute cruise around the 2.5-mile stretch of the San Antonio River known as the River Walk. Narrated cruises emphasize the history of the area and depart hourly from three "ports." Don't be shy about waving to passersby, as there's something about you being on a boat that will make them want to wave to you, too. Barges are available for private tours, dining charters and custom cruises. River taxis are available for groups, as well. Reservations are accepted for seating on general public narrated cruises.
When you visit San Antonio, never park in unattended parking lots on level ground, where you pay the metal box. If there is not an attendant on site, and if you don't get a receipt, your car will most likely be booted or towed. The average response time for the private enforcement company to remove the boot, is 20-45 minutes. Also, you will be forced to pay over $100 to have the company remove the boot, even if you have paid the full parking price in advance as posted.
We can't make a visit to San Antoio without devoting an entire day at the River Walk. With the summer being hot & humid there isn't a better way to wind down the day than a night time cruise on the River. Absolutely beautiful & the tour guides are just the best.! Our two sons-in-law had never been till the fall of 2008 & it didn't take them long to see why we are in awe with this wonderful city. Thank you San Antonio..!! The only thing there is to "dislike" is the humidity in the summer.
I have to tell you this was an down and up experience. My husband uses a wheelchair. We could not find the handicapped entrance. We spent over two hours looking. We were given wrong information twice. Once from the company itself. There is an almost hidden elevator right by the Hyatt hotel.
Once we finally got to the right place the cruise was wonderful. Our driver was delightful. This was worth all the hassles.
We bought tickets at a discount at Lackland AFB and went on the tour. It was great. The tour guide was very informative and a real funny person.
However, the water was pretty thick and murky and there was a lot of trash in it.
I am a native San Antonian and I can tell you that i've gone on the rive cruises plenty of times and each experience is different. I love that the drivers a passionate and funny about the history of the riverwalk! I would highly recommend to take a night cruise especially beautiful during the holidays when the light up the trees!!!
The stars really do shine bright over Texas in the winter months. San Antonio's River Walk is all lite up with millions of lights hanging from the trees over the river. As you cruise around the downtown area on the river bardge you will fall in love with Texas all over again. Very good deal for your money and well worth the time and parking hassels.
It's all part of the experience. You should go on the cruise to get an idea of what all you want to see. You get some neat history stories, and the guides are entertaining. It's definitley worth the money (under 10 bucks per person), and you see alot of neat places. We enjoyed hearing the stories about the buildings. One of them even has some gargoyles on them to "ward" off evil spirits.
This is the most wonderful expreience for anyone, any age, anytime. It is most beautiful at Christmas time, all the lights over the river, the reflections, the narraition, is just simpley beautiful! A MUST see and do! as important as seeing the alamo! Dont forget to see the entire river...walk it! its amazing!
