River Walk

Description

When you think of San Antonio, two things automatically come to mind: the Alamo and the River Walk. The River Walk was conceived in 1929. Downtown had serious flood problems and Robert Hugman suggested that the city turn the San Antonio River into an asset rather than a hindrance. Hugman's brainchild has since become the essence of the city. The city's most popular attraction, it is often crowded and filled with children, party goers, tourists and locals. In the heart of the River Walk is an area filled with restaurants, shops and nightclubs, punctuated by fountains and towering Cypress trees. The River Walk is particularly crazy during Fiesta.

Parking scams
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/28/12
When you visit San Antonio, never park in unattended parking lots on level ground, where you pay the metal box. If there is not an attendant on site, and if you don't get a receipt, your car will most likely be booted or towed. The average response time for the private enforcement company to remove the boot, is 20-45 minutes. Also, you will be forced to pay over $100 to have the company remove the boot, even if you have paid the full parking price in advance as posted.

Nice vacation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/7/11
I took my wife to San Antonio for her first time out of missouri ever, i was born in texas , military in texas, i love it. She thought it was pretty cool , we did the river walk and alamo, (she just didnt get it though), and we went to Sea World. Down town sure has grown over 30 years but it was still nice food was priced right, shops were nice. just cant stand motels and wont do them again i will rent a townhome or condo before i have to sqwat in a hotel again, just kills the ambiance.

Faux Bois Art in San Antonio
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/15/10
The faux bois art pieces along the Riverwalk and in other parks of San Antonio are awesome. They look like petrified wood, but are made of concrete. Carlos Cortex Taller is a third generation artist who has taken over the family's artistic contributions. Find the benches, bridges and even a tree house in San Antonio and sit a spell! Some of the creations date back to the early 1930's.

Always look forward to going back there.
By Vince, 9/30/10
Liked all the sights, sounds, river/paddle boat rides, the mariachi bands and fun filled things to do. (Especially Dick's Last Resort ! What a FUN place to go ! No "manners" needed. Probably not a place for "kids", though) The only kids there, are grown-up "kids". And college students, too. Great restaurants at which to eat. And quite a few bars/pubs for relaxing, or just getting in out of the heat during the days. Also I serene place for a late night walk. Been there quite a few times.

By MC, 8/18/10
our third trip..... the alamo is still treated with the respect & dignity it deserves. we had a great time on the riverwalk. the only place we had a problem with was the buckhorn museum. the girls working the front entrance refused to tell us the admission fee so we left. we love you san antonio !
