San Antonio Botanical Garden

Description

33 acres of lush foliage and colorful blooms beg to be appreciated. A wonderful attraction often overlooked by visitors, the garden is exquisite year round, with something always in bloom. A conservatory, formal gardens, "old-fashioned" gardens and native plant areas provide a variety of interest. This is definitely a must-see for both botany experts and garden-variety folks. If you're visiting in the spring, don't forget your antihistamines. The garden center features a luncheon cafe, a gift shop, guided tours, and adults' and children's classes and is also available for private parties.

No way
By ,
Sometimes it's the staff members that make a place great and their attitudes were piss-poor. I was very displeased. Not recommended.

Not what I expected but its my fault.....
By ,
I went for Chocolate day and I went right after the winter storm so everything was dead! I should have thought it through, I just hope in April everything will look as beautiful like in the pictures.

First Visit Last Fall
By ,
I spent all day wandering, taking in the beauty, and enjoying as much of the garden as I could. It was peaceful and educational. Take a camera and extra batteries! There were exhibits that were fun for kids and plenty of room to let them wander. I will go again on my next visit to see it during a different season and would recommend it to others.

Where's the Dogwood tree?
By ,
This garden used to be one of the prettiest in the entire USA till management ripped out the azaleas and dogwood tree to put in something ugly and uselesss. The feast for the eyes you had when you first entered the garden, with lush beds of azaleas topped with the most magnificent white blooming dogwood couldn't be beaten. It's a shame someone decided to take them out. I haven't been back, since, and have no intention of returning.

not all great things in texas are big!
By ,
SABG IS BEAUTIFUL, WELL MANICURED AS WELL AS INFORMATIVE ON TEXA'S NATIVE FLORA AND FAUNA AND PIONNEER WAY OF LIFE. THE CONSERVATORIES ADD AN EXTRA TOUCH, BUT I MUCH PREFER THE NATURAL AREAS ESPECIALLY THE BUTTERFLY GARDEN. THE NUMBERS AND SPECIES OF BUTTERFLIES WAS TREMENDOUS. I WAS SORRY TO SEE ALL THE FOUNTAINS EMPTY BECAUSE OF THE WATER RESTRICTIONS. I FOUND THE PLANT LIFE SOMEWHAT SIMILAR TO FLORIDA WHICH I DID NOT EXPECT.

Don't miss Garden for the Blind
By ,
We liked it all, but I have to go out of my way to recommend the Garden for the Blind. It's all about scent and texture and is not like any I've seen in any other garder. The kids (ages 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 in our group found this feature delightful, too. P.S. None of us is blind.

Wedding location
By ,
We had our wedding at the Biotanical Garden. Unfortunately, we had not picked this first. We started at the Wedding island which is trashed. The day before the wedding, we contacted them and they went out of the way to let us get married there. Fantastic people! The place is beautiful and has many romantic little nitches for photographs. Plan to have lunch there if you can. The lunches they serve are beyond compare in size and value. Let alone you also can have a taste of the exotic as they add fresh flowers to the salads! What a great place and fantastic people!

Would do this again!
By ,
I went during the middle of Feb as I had a meeting to attending, so I decided to pop over here after reading someone else's review about this place. There wasn't a lot of flowers to see, but their indoor exhibits were well worth it! I especially enjoy the one exhibit about desert plants and the view from the observation point looking into the downtown area was beautiful (even on a cloudy day). The gardens have a restraunt on site and the food was pure heaven (I had the cucumber sandwich on wheat and a slice of lemon cake). The desserts are homemade. I would definately come back again!
