Artworks, San Antonio

So we woke up this morning and decided that we would go to Artworks Studio on Mainland for "open art".  The fee is $7 per child.  About 30 mins into our session the owner arrived and the vibe of the place changed considerably.  My toddler being curious as most kids his age are, stood next to her while she opened art supply boxes.  As I stood there next to him, I mentioned to him that the boxes were off limits and redirected him elsewhere.  Mind you he was only looking and may have only touched the top of a box.  Guess that was not enough for her as she reprimanded him harshly.  Tears were shed and I calmed him down from the "mean lady".   

Moving on, he comes upon another little boy his age and watches as he plays with a toy truck.  The truck is on a tray with paint so as the tires make a pattern.  The paper is near by and is obviously for the station.  Being the parent, I am right next to him and he is under my complete supervision.  No sooner does he take the truck for his turn does the owner show up and reprimands him again for not using the provided paper.  In the same breath, I am instructed that children his age need constant supervision and direction.  Really.  Like I have no idea.  Bottom line, the owner may need to relax a bit as her studio caters to children  An art studio for children might have a few markers left with the lid off, or paper on the floor or children who wish to look around at what others are doing.  I think the place could use some cleaning up but that is not why we came.  We came for a good time.  Likewise there is no sign stating that she is deathly afraid of children under two.  I asked for a refund after our awful time but was told that we spent  $14 worth of paper and finger paint!!!  Hmmm right.  Won't be back and guarantee my friends won't either.  Skip this place altogether or approach with some serious caution.  Mean people suck.  People that are mean to small children suck even more.

Children love Artworks. They stay busy for hours. I would take my child here everyday if I could. Children have the chance to explore different media and listen to cultural music. My girls have been attending for a few years.

I loved the employess and how well they worked with the children. My child said he had the best party ever. I loved it because I didn't have to do a thing. Artworks took care of everthing for me.

Creative! Innovative! Indoors is the way to be in hot San Antonio Summers when not at the pool, or rivers!

They did a terrific job at Artworks, the staff was amazing and the kids were entertained for hours. Artworks was an excelent choice for my daughters 9th birthday. I would recommened Artworks to all my friends. It was very much worth my time and not a penny was wasted, we can not wait to have another Artworks experience.

We've been going to this location for the past two years, and there's always something new for the kids to do. The staff is friendly, professional, and the atmosphere is creative and fun. Tania and staff keep the action going for the kids, and provide a safe environment for them. The outdoor play area is nice for kids (and parents) who want a break from the action, and the location is very accessible. There's Parents Night Out, week-long camps, and we've even held two birthday parties there. I can recommend this place without reservation. The prices are reasonable, and we can't wait to go back!

I recently went to artworks with our troop, This was our first trip there (for my daughter and I) the girls had such a great time there, making, painting and creating their own masterpieces, I do recommmend this to all who have kids or group to go out there and see this cute little place. where else can a kid go and explore their imagination with paint. I had my son's birthday there and the kids had such a great time, that we went back again for my daughter's birthday a couple months later. The kids still talk about how much fun they had there! They had a great time creating, painting, playing on the playset and they were so proud of their of masterpieces! The staff was very friendly and the owner was great with the kids. Another really nice thing was that the parents could hang out and visit with each other without the worry of losing the kids in a crowd like at other places. I love the location and you can also check out the shops in the village while the kids play at Artworks. I would definately recommend this place to friends!

We celebrated my 3-year old Birthday last year and everybody had a great time. Even the Grandmas left the party showing off their masterpieces! The staff was very helpful and we love the set up of the artwork stations. This is also a wonderful place for Art classes (we go to Somebody & Me). My daughter asks me everyday "is it Art class day today"?

I recommend having a party at Artworks. The staff is friendly and they help unload and load your car. They give a brief tour and then the children can play until food, outside play and cake. They returned my calls right away and answered all my questions. I will have another party there in the future. I can't wait to go back.
