One of the city's largest parks, Brackenridge offers more family fun than one day can accommodate. Start with the musical carousel featuring 60 antique horses. Then try the Skyride, which consists of Swiss manufactured cable cars that lift visitors to enjoy the view of the park as well as the city skyline. If ground transportation is more your speed, opt for a ride on the miniature train that runs through a 3.5-mile stretch of the park. For water travel, cruise around the upper part of the San Antonio River in paddleboats. Other facilities include a municipal golf course, a driving range, bike trails and picnic areas.

Great Place to Remember
By Sean, 02/05/10
I grew up in San Antonio in the 60s - 70s and Brackenridge Park, Alligator Farm, the Zoo, the Sky Cable Cars, Hemisfair, Sunken Gardens, Japanese Tea Gardens, the Carousel, drive thru water way, the Quarry were all very magical and memorable places. Go and enjoy what you can on a nice day and hopefully you will get to capture a moment in heaven. There are still many wonderful activities and culturally diverse families that go there, but be wary of your belongings, that diversity brings crime with it. The invading culture has destroyed a lot of the value this park. Gangs, Drugs and an uneducated and uncultured populous leave their trash, bottles, garbage, loud Rap and Tejano and attitude (at times). I still drive through every Spring - Fall and can see improvements, families having fun and maybe one day the culture will re-blossom with new respectful diversity for everybody. It is a wonderful place, just be smart.

We love this park!

This park is a great place for familys. I myself take all my four kiddos out on weekends never had a problem. its just like any other park. people might have had bad experince but do not let them spoil the idea of coming out to check out the park its right next to the zoo and next to the water where you can feed the ducks.

high crime area
By Guest, 07/04/08
your car might get broken into at that park, or worse. There is park security but they are totally inadequate, especially since there are so many hiding places in the forests and not any security cameras. My truck had an attempted break in there, and after I told security, they told me it happens all the time. They need to fix their security problem, probably get a police substation in there. The whole neighborhood right next to the park has prostitutes and drug dealers and child abusers, etc, total high crime, of course they will go to the parks.

Beautiful, but not the same
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/06/07
The description is outdated. The carousel was sold off years and years ago and replaced with a parking lot. All that remains of the skyride is the building where you once paid to get on it, and even that is closed off. Not even the towers stand anymore. Its still a beautiful park, and the zoo is a definite thing to see. I would pick this park over any of the others in town ANY DAY. Between the neglected beauty of the Japanese Tea Gardens, the fun and education at the zoo, and the relaxing atmosphere of the river, its wonderful.
