This is a gift shop so well known for its atmospheric patchouli fragrance that San Antonians can sniff a gift and know it came from Sloan-Hall. The owner's eye for contemporary design and taste for the unique and unusual set this little shop apart from the mainstream, too.
This place is sky high! The prices were high at the old location, they are even higher which means the rent at the new place is higher, LOL! As an example, they did not have Agraria Bitter Orange, I came to my MAC and purchased it for the same price, NO TAX, OR S&H! Maybe get ideas there, but go online once you leave.
And the workers are chilly and UNFRIENDLY. When I visited, even though there was only one customer besides me, no-one but the little guy making crosses talked to me, and the owner and the clerk were there....go figure!
I live in Alamo Heights so try to keep my business in the hood but going forward and when I need something unique and expensive, you can bet I will be heading to La Cantera where the people are friendly and understand that just because you work in a store that has high prices, you don't act rude. AWFUL. BYE BYE Sloan Hall and good riddance. YICK
They recenly moved to the Mobile Oil gas station which is really cool, and so are their attitudes. I went today to find gifts and speaking of uppity and rude.No wonder I was the only customer in the place. They must survive on internet sales is all I can think.
There is a Hispanic guy who has worked there for a while, absolutely no personality, he would be better suited for Porter Loring. Nothing unique here, dont waste your time.
i like that this place is kind of tucked away. it keeps it from having that megastore vibe like Neiman's or any of the other chains. the range of gifts is unusually wide, as is the price range. i like that the staff leaves you alone to look around instead of following you around like at the mall. which makes for a great atmosphere. i'm definitely telling my friends about this place!
I've shopped there twice and both times I had a great shopping experience. the last time I wasthere was during Valentines and the store
was having party. They were serving champange, sweets and playing great music.
I love the jewelry. Its the best selection.
sloan/hall is a great treat. We are very
lucky to have this store in San Antonio.
I stop by often for cards and gifts, and sometimes i pick up a little something for myself. All my visits over the last few years
have been good. They have so much to see, touch and smell. They kinda let you browse around on your own, so i can see how this could be misunderstood as not being helpful.
there is a big range of prices, and something
I love stopping by to browse and inevitably end up buying great gifts for friends & myself. They have the best card selection, intriguing books, lots of delicious smelling things, amusing gadgets, and jewelry I wish I could afford.
However, I absolutely agree with some of the other reviews about the poor service. The hired help are rude and listless. I would certainly spend more money there if the clerks were inviting and helpful. My visits are becoming less frequent...
omg... they need new customer service people... talk about attitudes! please fire then rehire everyone including the manager! great store terrible service. love all the items but just wasnt satisfied with the service.
