You will probably want to stay at this restored station and explore the train replicas for many hours. The old Santa Fe Depot looks much the same as it did in its 1930s heyday. Multimedia studios will educate you on the history of rail transportation in the area. Located on Galveston's popular Strand, it is the perfect spot to bring the kids for a full day of activities. After all, everyone knows how the little ones feel about trains. See website for admission and complete visitor details.

2 reviews for Railroad Museum
Fun for all ages
By Nica, 01/16/06
The Railroad Museum was quite interesting. My husband and I went, while on vacation without the kids. We plan to go back to take our children. There were tons of different trains, and you were able to climb into the trains and walk through them. They had Pullman cars (sleeping cars), a dining car, caboose, engines, a US Air Force train...etc. The cars were facinating, and there were alot of displays inside the trains and plaques giving you information about the trains. The terminal had alot of displays as well, and the old telephone booths and seats. There is a seperate car that is a small museum out in the railway, and a seperate building that is the Model train museum. Unfortunetly, we arrived only half an hour before closing and so were unable to explore the Model Train Museum. But we still had a wonderful time. I recommend giving yourself at least an hour to enjoy the museum and everything it has, perhaps more if you have small children accompanying you. The cost was $6 for adults ages 14 to 64. I don't remember the cost for children or senior citizens. Museum is conviently located in The Strand district, near the cruise ship harbor, and shops. Our only unhappy experience with this museum was that the inside of the cars, the bedding, seats, etc, were extremely dusty and the cars looked as if they were not being well cared for.

Great time!

We took our 7 year old daughter over the Christmas holiday. She had a blast! There are trains for you to travel through, visit the train museum, and even play in a child-sized train set. We spent over two hours at the museum and enjoyed every minute of it!
