Kimbell Art Museum, Fort Worth

After claiming not to watercolor paintings, my grandfather took me to see an exhibit featuring Winslow Homer. I became an instant fan. Decades later I could not wait to see another exhibit of his work in Houston. I was so disappointed in the small number of paintings in the exhibit. How could a museum so much larger than the Kimbell have so much less? Last summer, a man in the Houston Museum of Fine Art informed me of the Impressionist Exhibit at the Kimbell Art Museum. I made a special trip back to my home town to take my mother to the exhibit. We were amazed seeing pictures in person that we had only been able to see in history books. It was a once in a lifetime event and I will always remember it. The Kimbell may be small in a small town not known for culture. However, it is Fort Worth's best kept secret....until now. Please, don't go to this wonderful museum by yourself. Take your children, your parents, your grandparents, a friend...anyone! You will become an instant fan.

I was there once or twice a week a whole year in the USA. The best was show about Egypt in spring 2003. Since I am coming from Bosnia (Europe) it was so great to feel things from old Egypt on virtual way.

I love this place, the exhibits are wonderful. The old masters to the new exhibits are always great. It's free to get in and it's restaurant is the best. A great value for the money and the food is superb. I would go just to see the museum and nothing else if I had the gas money!!!Go you'll love it too.

The architect, Louis Kahn, said that the museum has a "feeling" which has nothing to do with his work. This feeling wraps around you and entices leisurely exploration of the treasures it houses.

The Kimbell is a small but mighty art museum that is a must see for anyone visiting Ft. Worth. Although you could probably see all of the permanent collection in an hour, don't. The museum is that good. In fact if you combine one of the always excellent temporary exhibitions with lunch (either at the Kimbell or the Modern) you can fill much of an afternoon. This is also a great place to bring the non-art lover to because it is small, free, and the quality is high. The majority of the paintings are not absract so many people will relate to them. Just beware that once you have visited you will become spoiled. Not all art museums are this good.

The Kimbell is actually one of the finest museums in the world. I understand that their acquisition budget exceeds almost every museum in the world, yet they keep their permanent collection to specific number. What that means is that what they do have one of the finest collections in the world, because they always trade up. Combine this with the world renowned Amon Carter as well as the Modern Art Museum, Fort Worth has far more to offer than Dallas. The Dallas Museum of Art is excellant too, and very worthy of visiting. I like the way the three Ft. Worth museums compliment each other in such an idyllic setting. Please don't miss the Museum of Modern Art! Even if you're not a modern art fan, you _will_ love your visit. It's a _fun_, _fun_ building. The Kimbell provides a spectacular, yet subdued setting for its exhibits. The Modern provides a fun setting for fun art. I think it's the coolest museum building I've ever been in.
