Forest Park Miniature Train, Fort Worth

Four year old loved it and so did both parents. Great value - $10 for the three of us. Forty five minute ride. Highly recommend. Train went by a wonderful playground on the banks of the Trinity River; after the train ride we went back (by car) to give the four year old some playground time.

I myself have been coming here since I was a child, and in my late 40's now, I find that the condition of this train is in the worst shape I have ever seen. The rail is not being maintained, the cars are in bad shape with graffiti carved in them and half the time I wonder if the locomotives will even make it back, not to also mention that half or the railroad crossing warning lights and bells are not operating. Now I have noticed they they have even taken parts off the locomotives (simulated driving wheels) and placed static mag type wheel rims to each side instead of replacing or repairing the actual driving wheels that make it look like a real locomotive from our past. Some of these things may not mean much to anyone, but with repairs and parts being replaced or completely removed, one has to wonder about the upkeep of the rails, and especially the bridges that this trains runs along and across. This used to be the funnest thing around, we would travel from Dallas to ride, but I believe that these things listed should be a concern to the managment team there (if any, and not just a family inheritance) and especially any families with small children that are planning on riding the train.

I don't really believe the previous reviewer. It sounds like the parents setup the disappointment for their kids - not the train operators. I have been riding this train since I was a little kid in the 70's and it was part of the Fort Worth Zoo. I have been taking my nephews, nieces and step-children for years. My family and I have visited the train countless times over the past 30 years and have never had a bad experience. The guys that run the train are grumpy old men running a 35 year old miniature train - they are not concierges at a 5 star hotel resort - cut them some slack. i'm sure the people in the previous review couldn't have possibly been difficult to deal with. Visit the train, take a ride - you won't be disappointed.

Everytime we are in Fort Worth we make time to take our children to ride the miniature train at Forest Park. This time was an entirely different experience and I have to say we will not ever return. While purchasing our tickets we were told there were seats at the front of the train and if we hurried we could make it. So we rushed over and got on the train only to be very rudely told to "get off, there are people who have waited 2 hours to ride." When they called for boarding it turned out that there were three people who had been waiting 50 minutes, nobody else had been waiting long. It is not as though we minded waiting for our turn, it was being treated like criminals because we were given incorrect information by the gentleman who sold us our tickets. Ordinarily I would be angry for awhile and then get over it, but in this case the train employee's rudeness was so unnecessary it was ridiculous. I am tired of people in the service industry acting like they are doing you a favor instead of providing the service you are paying them for; therefore, I decided to write this review. We were so disgusted with the way we were treated that we sold our tickets back to the ticketbooth and left. Our children, who had been looking forward to the excursion, were crushed.

We came across the train by accident one day in Ft Worth and have ridden it every time we have been back to town. My boys (who are train fanatics to rival all) love this train ride even more than the big expensive ones. I think they feel like it is just for them--just the right size, just the right length of ride, etc. Twice when we have ridden the train, we have gone under the main track just as a commercial train was chugging along the upper track. Talk about train heaven. We love the "Tiny Train"!!!

Our 3 year old son loves trains so for his 3rd birthday we took him on the FPMT. He loved it (And so did we) We hope to make this a tradition for years to come!

We have an 18 month old baby, and we will get up on the weekend and go down and take a ride on the train, he loves and it is fun for him every time, great little cheap thing to do for kids ( and adults) just for something to do, kill some time, it is something he will remember when he grows up in life..........

I rode that train as a child even with my dog. I am 51 now and have taken my kids and grand kids back to ride it. It is still a joy to ride. The distance and length of time of the train inside the city and never does it cross traffic always the beauty of nature. It always can take you back in time.

my mother, my brother, and i went yesterday, and it was nice. the cost was great, the popcorn and drinks were awesome. the conductor has been driving that train for years. it's nice and slow and it has tons of beautiful scenery. if you have any kids, this would be a fun thing to do, i strongly recommend it.

We spent the day at Trinity park on a warm, 75 degree January day. We hopped on at the Trinity depot in the park, bought some popcorn, and rode to the main depot to purchase tickets. The kids 5 & 8 loved the ride. It crossed the river and wound around most of the park. Several trains are running so there is only a small wait, as it runs hourly until 4 pm. We will go back. The kids always recommend this to their out of town visitors. If you plan to spend some time at the park, take bread for the duck pond.
