What started out as a collection of 36 amateur musicians has turned into one of the most highly regarded and eighth oldest orchestras in the country. Now with over 100 professional musicians, the Dallas Symphony embarks on its second century of artistic excellence and commitment to education and community service. Conducted by Andrew Litton, the orchestra made its first television appearance in 1995 and continues to gain worldwide exposure through numerous appearances. The orchestra calls the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center home and is accompanied by the Dallas Symphony Chorus on special occasions and celebrations. Each year three distinct series of performances are held, the Classical Season, the Superpops Season and the Distinguished Arts Concerts. Performances are usually held on Friday and Saturday nights with Sunday matinees. Ticket prices vary by performance as do hours of operation.

2 reviews for Dallas Symphony Orchestra
Fabulous music venue
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/04/07
The Meyerson Symphony hall is a stunning, IM Pei designed building with world-class acoustics. The Dallas Symphony is an excellent orchestra that looks to improve further when the new music director - Jaap Van Zweden - takes over full time in 2008-09. (His recent performances of Beethoven Symphonies 5-8 received well-deserved raves and created a high level of excitement for the coming season.) The Meyerson is located in the middle of the Dallas Arts District which is in the midst of a major building effort that will see 4 buildings designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architects (including the Meyerson) along a four-block space.
