For real, stuffed Mexican tacos and a retro atmosphere to go with it, Taco Diner is a chic place to visit. It is a cross between a Jetson's Cartoon and a roadside diner. This refreshing, contemporary diner is a terrific place to grab lunch or dinner. The corn tortillas are almost indescribably wonderful. Try them with chicken and cojita cheese or mushrooms and grilled pork. The fajitas are plentiful, very lean and quite tasty.
What a way to spend a lazy day!!! Out on the patio, wind blowing, nice music. I am hooked on the pitcher of delightfully refreshing mango juice, with some lime squeezed in and their tacos!!!!
My favorite tacos are the brisket, with the fish tacos a close second. The food is so fresh, and the sauces are thankfully unique. My husband and I share an order of four tacos, and are stuffed.
The service has always been amazing. We never feel money is wasted on good food, regardless of the cost, and feel Taco Diner is an incredible value. It is my third favorite local restaurant, right behind Roy's (1st) and P.F. Chang's (2nd). I really can't understand why there are any bad reviews. We go to the one at Legacy.
For those that think taco diner is expensive, stick to your $.79 bean burritos at taco bell. Better yet, go to taco cabana. I can't believe some of these reviews. The prices are similar to prices you would find at many restaurants. I haven't found another mexican style restaurant that serves such fresh tasting food as they do here. I guess you guys are used to your out of the can refried beans with your side of buttered lard.
The fare there is generally lighter than the usual tex-mex. Their chips are TERRIBLE -real thick and have no flavor, but they bring you a wonderfully smoky salsa and an avocado dip that are GREAT. If you like REALLY hot stuff, try their salsa weda - it's a green, light, pasty sauce that is like a jalapeno pesto - wonderful on its own or added to their queso. I love their chicken Tacos Americano - the rest of their tacos are so-so. Their mango margaritas ROCK, but they ARE over-priced. I think $8.00 is ridiculous, but I don't do it that often, so that's my justification. The atmosphere is just so-so.
Upon the recommendation of a friend, we tried Taco Diner for the first time this afternoon. It was at the new Southlake location. As my husband and I are "foodies" that eat out almost every night at upscale restaurants, I feel able to give you feedback on our experience.
The interior of the new location is nice, but a bit sterile and uninviting. We both ordered sodas and were given cans, which was surprising at $1.75!! For what it cost us both to have one soda, we could of bought two twelve packs. This is an outrageous price on a soda that isn't refillable. So, on that note alone, the meal was off to a bad start.
Our lunch entrees were both the brisket, which was excellent. The presentation was beautiful, but I thought the portion size was small for a $9.95 dish.
The service was excellent and there was ample staff. I think that it you just either made your sodas refillable or dropped the price you'd make customers happier.
However, all lackluster elements combined, we won't be coming back and we won't be recommending this restaurant
I had the dis-pleasure of eating at the Taco Diner at Macarthur and 114 last evening. At first thinking it was a popular restaurant I called ahead to see if I could secure a reservation. They put me on hold for eight minutes never to return to the phone. We arrived and hour later and got in right away however seeing that the place was suspiciously only about 30% full. It was 730pm on a Friday night. I thought were lucky at the time. We were seated right away in the pretensiouly mod diner with a limited one page menu. My wife and I and her friend ordered a round of Margeritas which came in four inch tall half glasses. What I didn't know at the time was I was being charged 8 dollars a glass for what I could best describe as a childrens sized mixed drink. For dinner my son orders a childs portion of cheese quesadilla which amounted to a serving the size of a dollar bill folded in half with a load of filler rice. I ordered four tacos which were skimpy on meat, and served on mini tortillas with only rice and a shred of tomatoe on the side. My wife and her friend had salads only. After dinner we had one more round of "half glass" margaritas and ordered my son a brownie dessert. I was aghast when the bill was $102.75. $48 for drinks and way overpriced entrees. Steer clear folks. I eat out alot and this is NO gourmet Mexican cuising. We would have been better off last night if we'd waited 2 hours to get a seat in the bar at an Applebees. Sorry but I'd give it three thumbs down if it were possible. Worst value ever.
I visit Taco Diner about once or twice a week. Is either for lunch with coworkers or dinner with my family. Every visit I make to Taco Diner is a different experience. Different kind of service everytime. It looks as if there is no preparation on the serving staff. I have been a loyal customer due to the food and because my kids love the chile con queso. Up to this point I have never been aknowledge as a well and cared customer like is usuall at other restaurants. Waiters need preparation and so do managers.
