Zilker Metropolitan Park
Patrons will enjoy a huge variety of activities at Zilker Park. You can check out the hike and bike trails, picnic facilities, Zilker Botanical Garden, canoe rentals, soccer fields, sand volleyball courts, riverboat rides on Town Lake, concerts, festivals and even a miniature train. The wide-open stretches of grass in this park are just minutes from the downtown area. There is plenty of room and various diversions for the kids, so you can get a sun tan, take long walks by the river or just curl up with a book down by the river
I love going for a run on the trail, If I'm lucky and feeling really good, I find myself wondering down to the Congress Bridge, I usually try to jog on Zilker trail as often as I can, why? Because I try to keep up with all those healty Joggers that fly down the trail, Just as I'm feeling old, someone fly's past me, with grey hair...go figure.
This is where the Austin City Limits Music Festival is held each year. Three days, eight stages, and over one hundred bands...so Very nice. If you're just wanting to relax and see why ATX is considered one of the fittes cities, this is must visit for you. Nice trails for walking I'd leave the bike and Zilker Park is host to tons of other events throughout the year. A kite festival in the spring and a great place to bring the family during Christmas at night!!
Zilker park is a beautiful sceneery enjoyable for all ages. Botanical gardens is riht across the stret and it is just GORGEUS!!the park is huge and theres beautiful swimming there. And very fun train rides and GREAT for photgraphy and the arts
MY GOSPEL GROUP/FAMILY PLAYS THE ACL & SXSW FESTIVALS AND WE CAN'T HARDLY WAIT FOR THE TRIP BACK....IT'S A FAMILY DEAL FOR SURE.
I WOULD CERTAINLY RECCOMEND THIS WONDERFUL PLACE TO FAMILIES, UPCOMING FAMILIES, AND TOUR GROUPS.
THE ATMOSPHERE IS GREAT.
All of the Botanical Garden is wonderful but just beyond the Rose Garden is the Hartmann Prehistoric Garden with a beautiful bronze of a dinosaur - I think it's an ornithomimus - caught in mid-stride. It's on an island surrounded by streams, and the whole garden is planted with ground cover, trees and shrubs of the types which can be traced back to prehistoric times through the fossil record. It's wonderful - and on Saturday mornings they mist the area which lends a mysterious, almost surreal atmosphere - fun to catch sight of the dinosaur through the mist! Makes great photos.
I visited the park when my sister got married. She lives in Austin.(what a beautiful state!!) We had a picnic there for out of town guests and members of the wedding party. What a great choice!!
My favorite thing about the park were the BIG, gorgeous trees. My daughter and brothers climbed up on the huge limbs. I took the most beautiful pictures ever with them sitting on the limbs.
This park helped make my trip to Austin very memorable!! As a matter-of-fact, I am returning on Oct.15,2005. We plan to have another picnic.
Thank you for keeping AUSTIN WIERD!!!
The only thing I believe that could be improved are the restrooms. They were not very pleasant.
this place is beautiful! you can sit on the hillside and soak up some sun, and when you get too hot, just walk down and jump into the natural spring swimming pool that is always the same temperature year round. i went there with my husband on our first anniversary, and we had a lovely time. a perfect place to read a book, catch an afternoon nap, or just sit around and chat with friends. on the other side of the fence, you can bring your pets for a swim for free. how fun!
We visited this beautiful park earlier this year when they had their annual "kite flying contest." It was a gorgeous day, and I have never seen so many unique kites and friendly people (gorgeous texan sky to boot as a back drop!). You really got a sense of a strong community there. It was a great day that left a lasting impression. Never wanted to leave!
