Nothing lasts forever...

This is where I got my first job, as a young adult. Used to work on one of the food vendors, kiosks that surrunded the ice rink in 1980. Called Sweet Thang. I made the fresh baked cookies, and squeezed lemonade for the place, and the Dog Stop stands throughout Austin. This is where I learned to ice skate. Lots of fond memories there. I was a military brat, and when I graduated in '81, I left Austin forever. Looking back, the place then was well run, and was very contemporary. Even then, all the store spaces were not completely filled. It was huge, and rambling, and just a beautiful place to walk, and enjoy the athmosphere. I am very sorry to hear, it was not managed well, in the end. But, I will tell you, the people who built this mall, and ran it, were top notch in the day. It just goes to show you, that businesses are people, and they are run and built up by people. So, the place is gone, and so are the people who ran it. Now, instead of a place where a small business owner can get a start, you get the box stores, that have everything. You lost a place where you could skate, and shop, and hang out with friends, and family. For the typical wal-mart. Just goes to show, that this country is going to the dogs. Well, I had my fun there. I was there, and now you have a piece of empty land. Hopes and dreams of the past have faded, and you get the box. If it hasn't been built already. I would have driven from where I live, anywhere in the country to visit your mall. Now, I can go down the block, here in Missouri, and go to wal-mart. So, who is the loser now?
