Sit at a patio table under the huge oaks and you will discover why this spot is called Shady Grove. One of the best patios ever created is reason enough to stop by, and the consistently tasty, crowd-pleasing food is a great bonus. Happy hour is offered Monday through Friday 4pm to 7p. A menu standard is the Hippie Sandwich, a concoction of sauteed vegetables, cheese and a sub-style roll. Add a chicken breast and you have got the Hippie Chick. Kids love the chicken fingers and the burgers are great, too. Plus, this place has personality - just check out the bathroom (housed in an old Airstream trailer).
Always one of our faves, but until recently food was average. We've always loved the patio and ambiance, but felt the food could be better. Over the last yeat the food has become increasingly better and consistent. The new brisket tacos are wonderful, better than any taco I've had at any local mexican restaurants. It seems Shady Grove is
"old school": great food made from scratch, inexpensive prices, ample portions and great service. Also has the best burgers in town. Keep up the good work.
This place should be rated higher than it is. Love sitting under the trees outside, but in summer, it does get pretty hot!! Inside is ok, but outside is where it's at!
Ref food -- I often get the green chile chicken fried steak and the twice cooked potato. Yum!
Drinks: all are good. Seem to recall they have some sort of house special 'rita which is pretty good to sip on.
Love sitting outside and watching the people. The food is spectacular and the service is wonderful. IT has a great atmosphere. I like to take my friend who come to Austin to visit, it lets them experience the laid back feel of Austin I highly recomend it!!
Being from northern IL where you cannot eat outdoors after June because of the bugs, I fell in love with Shady Grove from the minute I sat down at my outdoor table. Each year when we return to Austin to visit our son, we head to Shady Grove for lunch one or two times while in town. It's a great place and you are never hurried, even though they are packed with customers.
