Built in 1881, this structure is famous for superb acoustics. Stars like Enrico Caruso and Charlie Chaplin graced its stage in the early 20th Century. Home to the 'Grand Ole Opry' radio show for more than 30 years, it became known as 'The Mother Church of Country Music'. By day, you can view displays that depict its rich history. In the evening, enjoy live bluegrass, jazz, classical, country, and gospel performances. The auditorium is available for weddings, public meetings, corporate parties, theatrical productions, dinners and concerts. They also have a museum which has various exhibits depicting music history. Check website for upcoming events.
The Ryman Auditorium is not to be missed. We'd suggest the backstage tour as well as the regular tour of the auditorium. The architecture is amazing. If you're as lucky as we were to get a great tour guide, it's an interesting and fun tour!
to stand where all the original entertainers of country music was absolutely awesome. was not able to see a show there but sure the acoustics are great, they compared it to the morman tabernacle choirs tabernacle, been there and it is great. will go back to see a show there. our tour guide was great and added alot of humor and facts. can't wait to take my sister there
We loved our experience, we were just going to do the self-tour, the guide told us that there were tickets available for the Sat. Nite show, what a treat! Everyone was so nice, staff and fellow visitors alike, we felt like we were with family. Our seats were in the extreme nose bleed section, but true to the ticket sellers word, they were excellent and comfortable (they were padded folding chairs as opposed to wooden pews)
I felt like we were experiencing a part of entertainment history, if you get the chance to see a show you should do it!
I'd go back tommorrow. I took my parents and my mother cryed with excitement of it all. And to finally be in the Ryman. Even though I've been there ,I'd do it again in a heartbeat.I'm so glad that they restored it. It's so very worth it. Next time I hope to see a live show there the sound must to awesome. No one was playing there at the time. A MUST see. Deb
This is a great place to visit, one block off the main street of lots of activities. It gives you goose bumps to know how many of the great artists have stood on that stage and preformed. You can't go wrong with a tour of the Ryman, and if you are there when they are preforming, an added +.
i enjoyed this a lot. I grew up in a cross music field. Dad listened to swing bands and classical, mom was all about grand ole oprey. Me i was about 60's music, rock. To stand where so many people i had seen, on tv and heard on the radio made a profound impression on me. I knew the gohst of patsy, hank, etc. Where right there forever is very spiritual. My mom would have been proud.
