Each year, Memphis honors a different country with this month-long celebration. Various events around the city celebrate the arts and culture of the chosen country, from art exhibits to dance exhibitions to special dishes served in area restaurants. Several events are held in May that are related to Memphis in May, but not to the specific country being honored; these include the World Championship Barbecue Contest and the Beale Street Music Festival.
