The atmosphere at this diner-style cafe is so authentic that the place was used virtually unchanged in "The Firm", the Tom Cruise movie about a Memphis law firm. Bill Clinton is also fond of the Blues City Cafe. The decor is intentionally weathered, with corrugated iron and glass blocks. Diner-style seating offers a great view of the crowds on Beale. The best bet on the menu is that Memphis staple—barbeque. You can watch big slabs of ribs being turned on the grill while you drink a cold beer. The prices are slightly elevated because of the restaurant's historic location, but you can still eat for a reasonable price.

Get the ribs! You won't go away hungry!
By I drive fire trucks, 03/08/09
We were on a 2800 mile road trip across the US and wanted to go to Beale Street for BBQ. We parked and walked downtown and came across a City cop. We asked where the best BBQ was and he pointed us to the Blues City Cafe. Three of us ordered a full rack each ($19.95). Came with fries, cole slaw, and beans. The ribs were fall off the bone good. Ask for extra sauce. I was so full I skipped dinner later on in the day. You can't beat the location or atmosphere. 3 thumbs up from myself and friends.

Great Place to eat while on Beale Street. Good Food and Service. Food was brought out minutes after ordering! It was great.

Superb ribs! Succulent with delicious sauce. Friendly service.
By CopperGirl, 04/30/08
Succulent ribs, the meat tender and beautifully spiced. I did not find them as saucy as others said. I got some extra sauce on the side, and it was superb! Don't bother with an appetizer - you'll be stuffed with 1/2 rack of ribs and other entrees looked even larger. It's great that it's open late, and they are very welcoming if you are on your own. Enjoy!

Pretty good stuff!
By AlliCat1998, 03/17/08
I thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant! The atmosphere is great, and the food is pretty darn good. The ribs were good (much better than the Rendezvous!), and the portions generous. They weren't the BEST ribs I've ever had, but they were tender and falling off the bone. I'd recommend this place to those looking for good food on Beale St.

The best steak I have ever had!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/11/08
My husband and I recently did a long weekend music and barbecue tour of Western Tennessee. We started in Nashville on Broadway and ended on Beale Street in Memphis. Hands down the best meal we had was the porterhouse steaks we were served while listening to the local blues of Memphis at The Blues City Cafe. The steak was tender, the seasoning perfection and at 16 ounces no one left hungry. Being from the north but with some south in our blood we cannot quit thinking about how to get back to the Blues City Cafe for dinner.

Awesome ribs
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/06/04
We were going to go to another famous rib joint while in Memphis, but everyone in town said that the Blues City Cafe had the best ribs in town. I'd have to agree. They are so tender, that the meat falls off the bone. Great smoky BBQ taste. I was assured that I wouldn't be disappointed, and I wasn't.
