The burgers are definitely big and juicy, but many customers are drawn by the deep fried onion rings and mushrooms, the live music on Sunday afternoons, and the late evening hours. If you are looking for something besides burgers, try the tamales with chili, cheddar cheese, and onion, the chicken or steak on a stick, or the fried mushrooms. There is a full bar, where beer is a specialty. The atmosphere is casual, with a couple of gimmicks. Customers are encouraged to write graffiti on the walls (and to read it, of course), and to shoot toothpicks through straws so they stick in the ceiling. Lunchtime draws area office workers.
I don't go out for fast foods or burgers. Huey's was recommended for their good portion of a Veggie Burger. Not so!! I sat on your outdoor patio's Poplar location. I'm embarrassed and angry at what I got. Lot of wheat bun-a burger much smaller than the bun and very--I mean it--very thin burger--lot of lettuce and diced tomatoe???? I like a lively atmosphere as yours. But hey! What happened??? That's not like you in my first experience. This was my second. I haven't lived in Memphis long. Maybe I'm spoiled growing up 50 years in Chicago.
Looking for a great burger or place for lunch? Then Huey's is the place to go. It's a Mphs favorite for lunch and burgers for over 25 yrs! Looking for a casual setting? You have found the place. I've been to the Poplar E. Mphs location - like jazz? Then head over there on Sundays for its live music in the afternoon, and blues or rock at night. Don't forget to try the world famous Huey burger or the turkey supreme they are fabulous and don't forget to have fun blowing toothpicks into the ceiling with your drink straw it is part of the tradition at Huey's!!
This place rocks; I came the first time on a rainy night in 1986 and have come back to Memphis just to eat at this location hundreds of time since; Great food; Actually, one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. Plus, the live music is a true sampler of why Memphis music has, and will always be the best.
