Charleston Tea Plantation
Attention tea connoisseurs! This is the only working tea plantation in the United States; you can learn about tea harvesting, processing and packaging. The plantation supplies the official tea of the White House and grows over 300 varieties on its 127 acres. If you are visiting during the summer, wear a hat or take an umbrella as the sun will be intense and there is little shade available outside. Factory tour is free. See their website for plantation trolley tour rates.
I loved the atmosphere. The people were sooooo friendly and helpful and VERY knowledgeable. The trolley driver(Wayne) was funny and very helpful in understanding how tea is grown and processed. I take all my friends out was when they come to town. Its the only one in the US so the price is totally worth it, plus there is free tea. I love the Tea Plantation and American Classsic Tea.
It is educational and you will learn a little about how 3 teas come from just one plant. The tour itself was $10 per person just to ride out on a cute little open carriage, but you can see it all from the main building, and perhaps the tour is worth about $2.50 but don't spend any more than that. Very disappointed in the price and value. Perhaps this is better seen in the late summer months, otherwise do not bother
