Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, Charleston

We recently worked at Magnolia Plantation and I can tell you that you will for sure not be disappointed. There are a handful of absolutely magnificent backgrounds/settings on the property that could hold wedding related activities. While most locations on the grounds are outdoors there are also a few indoor options creating a truly versatile wedding venue. absolutevid_dot_com

We are here now and the gardens are beautiful. I would recommend them for an evening of getting back to nature. Great value for the money. The kids love the petting zoo

We spent a very boring and disappointing few hours at the Magnolia plantation.. I find the "plantation" is over-rated, over-priced and the advertising is misrepresented. The house visit was especially disappointing. Our guide made an effort but it was truly a waste of our time. Much ado about nothing and a lesson to be learned . I would not recommend this tour.

We just got back from a trip to Charleston and Savannah and we visited seven plantations. Magnolia Farms was the most grand and commercial of the plantations we visited. It was also – by far – the most expensive. You can spend up to $47.00 per person. The house tour was interesting but the gardens were disappointing. We only spent about and hour here and that includes the 30 minute house tour. It just seems to have lost all of its history in the commercialism.

We are coming back again on our visit to the low country, getting married on St. Patricks day in St. George and plan on spending next day in gardens for our pictures. We currently have pictures from last trip. I think it is a magical, beautiful place to visit. The Beagles!

One of many things we wanted to see on our trip to historical Charleston. Spent almost a full Sunday touring the Magnolia Plantation. Educational, but as far as Plantations go, we found that the Charleston Plantations are not as luxury as the ones we visited in Louisiana. We bought the "All exclusive" package and found that it was a bit pricey for what we were able to see and do. Although we saw plenty of wildlife, beautiful flowers, old slave quarters, the Plantation was not well kept and managed. Tours were rushed, disorganized at times, and did not provide any additional information other than the tour guide, who was often engaged in conversations with individuals. If you are a plantation lover, might be a little disappointed.

We visited Magnolia Plantation late March 2010 and very few plants were in bloom. Staff were hard to find & when we located one in the petting zoo to let them know a styrofoam cup with soda was within striking distance of the animals, it turned out to be the employees! This seemed unsafe for the animals. A complete tour package was available for $43 per adult or you could see different parts of the Plantation ala carte. We opted for a self-guided tour of the Plantation grounds & petting zoo ($15 pp, $10 kids) and a tour of the Audobon Swamp ($7 pp) for a total of $61. This was pricey for what we saw. I would skip the Plantation grounds and just go to the Swamp. You can actually walk from the Slave Cabins to the Swamp and vice-versa without paying. Kids were actually riding bikes from the paved area of the Swamp over to the Slave Cabins. We saw 4 alligators & it was the highlight of our 4 hour day at Magnolia Plantation.

I have never been to Charleston, our visit to the Harbor was very enjoyable. But our visit at Magnolia Plantation will be the one thing we will always talk about concerning this trip. The tram ride through the swamps, marshes etc. was very enjoyable, Joe had made a photo album and labeled it for his passaengers to enjoy and learn what birds and wildlife they could see. He was very helpful. The house tour was also enjoyable. During our walk through the Audubon Swamp, we saw a squirrel carrying her baby in her mouth! Never have I seen that and we have a yard full of squirrels. The Swamp was ablaze with yellow flowers everywhere. And in the Duck weed covered water was a small gator. We enjoyed all the tours we were able to go on, (there's only so much you can cram in, in a day,) but the tour that my husband and I were most impressed with was the African American Slavery to freedom tour.Our guide was well studied in this area and taught us ( there's no other word, he taught us) that the African slaves were really had as much if not more influence on our American culture as our European Ancestors. From bringing the knowledge of rice growing to food preparation to music to language, we owe our way of life to these people. This tour has been the most discussed for us. Very eye opening!!! And to think that of the millions of these precious people that were enslaved, only 500,000 were actually brought to America, it's mind boggeling. There was not an old time Hollywood picture of "happy happy singing slaves" that was painted, but more of a "look we could not have gotten along without these people" insight that was passed on. I strongly and highly recommend that everyone visit Magnolia Plantation when visiting Charleston. All of the staff was friendly, kind and helpful. The facilities were clean and well taken care of. Plan to spend a day or two.Photo ops at every turn! Cannot say enough about our visit! Cannot wait to go back!

We visited South Carolia for the first time and a stop at a plantation was a must. We had planned to visit at least 2 on this day but ended up spending 8 hours here. We took advantage of the whole package. Our 7 year old enjoyed the petting zoo, nature tour and the Swamp tour. My husband and I are historical buffs and getting to visit a real slave cabin was enlighting. The House tour was ok, but the maze and gardens were facinating. This was one of the highlights of our trip. We visited in July, but I would recommend going in the Spring.
