John Brown House Museum

Description

This commanding, three-floor mansion sits almost atop College Hill adjacent to Brown University. The house was built in 1786 for the premier Providence merchant of his day, John Brown. Now, under the purview of the Rhode Island Historical Society, this mansion retains some of the original furniture and decorations including a nine-shell desk and bookcase that are thought to be among the greatest remnants of American Colonial furniture. Admission is USD7 for adults, and USD5.50 for senior citizens, and children—cash and personal checks only.

John Brown House is very rare, treasure and history. I lived in R.I. and was attented the old Rhode Island School for the Deaf (Hope St.) in Providence in 1972.

Historical Quality
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/28/07
Liked all that there was to learn about this place and all of the history of each of the rooms. there was so much to see. Try to visit when it isn't to warm out, because there is no central air and can get very hot as it did on the day that I visited. Anyone interested in learning Rhode Island history should difinetly visit this place!
