George's of Galilee
Situated on its own private beach, George's is an extremely popular restaurant located 40 minutes south of Providence. Seafood is its award-winning specialty; the chowder, fish and chips and lobster dishes are all excellent. Steaks, ribs, pasta, salads and sandwiches are also on the menu. George's has an appealing dessert menu, a full bar, and a take out window plus it offers live music on the weekends. People travel from miles around for its reasonably priced daily specials even off-season after the summer tourists are gone.
Our waitress was very nice and the restaurant looks clean. The view is great. But, the food is definitely lacking in quality. The onion rings and the french fries are not fresh. I order the stuffed sole with lobster sauce. There was no lobster sauce whatsoever on the fish. The stuffing in the fish and on the shrimp was nothing more than dried out bread crumbs. I would guess that everything is prepackaged versus being freshly made. Given the prices you would expect to receive much better quality.
We have not been for a while but I am sorry i did not listen to the reviews. Ordered sea scallops they were definitely not sea. Our food was overcooked and clams were very chewy. Portions very small. Service was also terrible. We will not be returning, will go to Champlins next door or Iggy's up the road!
We ordered full belly fried clams and got something just above clam strips. George's does not get their clams locally but gets them from the Chesapeak Bay in Maryland. Several of the other restrauants in Point Judith/Galjlee had the real full belly clams.
While vacationing in Rhode Island, a local guide suggested we dine at George's of Galilee in Narragansett, RI. What a mistake!!! We waited about 30 minutes before we were even asked if we wanted a beverage. When the watered down drinks and warm beer arrived, we placed our dinner orders. It took another hour before we were even served our salad, or should I say bowl of warm wilted lettuce. The entrees were much the same; small servings, reheated, dried up seafood. The only item not small or watered down was the check...ridiculously expensive for such a poor establishment. I'll never go back again.
Basil's of Narragansett is an experience in fine dining,a restaurant of "elegant food and atmosphere by the sea". Although located
only one block from Narragansett Beach & the famous Narragansett Towers, we are a visit back to the charm ...
