Easton's Beach, Newport

We visited Easton's Beach on a family vacation with our two children. Found plenty of activities to entertain the kids: carousel, waterslides, and the aquarium. Aquarium has lots of hands-on activities, our six-year loved it. Water was pretty clean, seaweedy in a few spots, but didn't stop us from swimming. Umbrella and chair rentals from beach store were convenient and affordable.

I must admit that I am a seafood junkie. Having been on a mission to find the best lobster roll in Rhode Island, I just happened to stumble across Easton's Beach Snack Bar. Well talk about doubling my pleasure with their TWIN Lobster Rolls at $10.99. And NO that is not a typo. I spoke with the owner of the snack bar, who told me that they have never gone up on their price during all the years they have offered the Twin Lobster Rolls. How many restaurants can lay claim to something like that? That and the fact that the lobster rolls are absolutely delicious..

My fiance and I are from Maine and we go down to Newport as often as we can in the summer. We go primarily for the famous Twin Lobster Rolls for $10.99. (Can you believe that amazing price!?) There used to be a really bad seaweed problem but we are so happy to see that it has been taken care of. Easton's Beach is one of the loveliest beaches in the area.

We went to Easton beach in 2008. While I loved the beach itself, and the Atlantic club at the East end of the beach. The smell of raw sewage was almost unbearable. We also saw large amounts of seaweed, but it was not enough to stop us from returning. This could be a great beach if it was not for the awful stench of sewage(it is not runoff from the street as another reviewer stated)!

We were at Easton's Beach (First Beach) in August 2010 and it was truly disgusting. We arrived late in the day and there was trash all over the beach. The smell was overwhelming and the red seaweed was everywhere (to the extent it turned the waves a brown color). What's more the seaweed was filled with rotting carcasses of dead crabs and other sea creatures and was covered in flies. I really struggled to find a nice beach in the entire Newport area. Second beach wasn't much better and in the end Gooseberry Beach was the best I could find. Most beaches are expensive if you park there ($15 - $20 per car). If you are not into swimming though and can get used to the smell, Newport itself is really beautiful and has plenty of interesting stores and restaurants. I’ll check that one off my list and won’t go back there again.

I visited this beach yesterday 07-05-10, for exactly 8 mins. I had my 3 year old and my sister had her kids. Words can't even describe the amount of trash that was at the beach, the smell was unbearable, to the point that the children began to cry. The water was polluted by red tide and I know that the water could not have been safe for anyone to swim in. I was utterly disturbed by the conditions of this beach, not to mention the $20 fee they charged every car that was parking there. I will never visit this beach again and will make sure to pass the word to everyone. Can't even believe the beach was publicly open in the conditions that we visited. Westport beaches blow this beach out of the water and I will once again never visit this pit.

Sand is very fine and soft but when the wind is strong then the wind picks up the sand easily. When someone gets up and pack next to you, you will get a lot sand on your face/body too. Don't eat or drink at the beach because you will end up eating sand, or the seagull will attack your food! Parking is expensive but I guess most the beaches are charging about the same.

We had heard about the red seaweed problem prior to our visit so we were well prepared. We researched the area beaches & found that Sachuest was by far the nicest beach around. Be prepared to pay $10/day to park & $15 on the weekends. Another tip, get there early on Sat & Sun. The lots fill up fast & parking far away can be a hassle when carrying so much beach gear. There are other smaller beaches around. Depending on your needs there is a beach for everyone. All beach information can be found on line.

The red sea weed was out of control, no way we were going to swim in it. As the waves curve over you can see they are full of the sea weed and those that were swimming (kids) had it all over them. There was an announcement over an intercom that said the west side of the beach had very little sea weed for those who wanted to swim. We went down that and it was better and the waves were very big and a lot of fun. The price to park was too high at 15 bucks. The big concession stand was packed, we stopped counting heads at 80. If you do want to buy food then I suggest you go to the end of the beach where the bar is. Just around the corner there is a small concession stand that only had two people waiting for food. If you want to order beer then you have to pay a five dollar cover charge to drink and eat at the bar. Most of the food is fried but if you would like a salad then be prepared to pay around 11 or 12 bucks.

easton's beach is a great place to go. the parking is cheap and very organized. the food is awesome and inexpensive. lobster rolls are a must on tuesday nights with the summer concerts on the beach. the carosel is great for kids of any age, along with the many other things for kids to do including a playground. the beach is beautiful and well kept. it's fun with volleyball games, never a dull moment. easton's beach is a great place to go in newport with the whole family or just friends.
