Ghost Tour Of Philadelphia
This is one of Philadelphia's most popular, unusual and entertaining tours. Join costumed tour guides for a leisurely stroll through Society Hill in the historic heart of the city at Independence Park and on the edge of the nationally famous restaurant district of Old City. This candlelight walking tour is based on the book "Philadelphia Ghost Stories" by Charles J. Adams III. Listen to tales of the unknown as you walk in the footsteps of famous men and women. Open daily 7:30am onwards.
We did the candlelight walking tour that ended with a visit to the Powell House. Our guide was Damien. Please save your money and more importantly save your time!
Damien walked so fast that half the group had to practically run to keep up all the while he kept warning us not to cross on the red light or he would get a ticket, yet he did not slow his pace. He kept forgetting the script and had to keep correcting himself.
We never saw the cemetery that is advertised. We went to 4 or 5 stops. The 10 minutes of interesting stories were not worth the 90 minutes of our time. The only slightly interesting part was the visit to the Powell house with caretaker Jonathan. Our group of 16 were all given EMF detectors and we got to spend 5 minutes bumping into each other in 2 x 4 sized rooms trying to detect ghosts. It was so so poor I can't express that enough!
10-14-09: Our tourguide, Nicole, was very good. She seemed very knowledgeable. (I didn't think it was appropriate to ask for tips.) Only problem on the tour was with the completely obnoxious and disruptive 60+ year old drunk couple from TN. Stay home drunks, let the rest of us enjoy!
She mixed up all the facts and some of the stories didn't make sense. It was clear she had memorized a script and knew nothing about any of the buildings. The stories don't make sense and aren't scary ... if the guide was any good, this could have been worth it.
This was the most relaxing part of our trip. I thought our hostess did a great job of keeping it very interesting. Learned alot of history and saw a different side of Philadelphia. We would recommend this tour.
I booked this trip with a group of middle school students on a trip to Philly this summer. I thought it would be ok. WOW! I was wrong.
Our storyteller was terrible at capturing attention, and was absolutely awful at telling a story! Usually, during a story, the storyteller starts at the beginning and ends at the end. She was all over the place.
Do not do not do not do not waste your time and money on this useless tour.
Unless you have a sense of humor, this tour is awful. Storyteller is a joke! He was very anti-climatic and he never looked at the audience. Not scary at all. On the other hand, if you have a great sense of humor, this might be worthwhile just for the fun of it. Just watch out... for the HAG... of Pine Street.
