Liberty Bell

Description

In 1751, William Penn asked that the new bell being cast for the Pennsylvania Statehouse be engraved with the words, Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the Land unto all the inhabitants thereof. The bell rang to call citizens to the first reading of the Declaration of Independence and was later dubbed The Liberty Bell by abolitionists, who adopted the bell as a symbol of their fight for freedom for all Americans. Talks on the history of the bell are presented continually during open hours, which vary season to season.

Boring...
By ,
If you're looking for something fun, do not go here. I suppose it's worth a look since it has to do with our country's history and all, but it's pretty much boring. It's the bell and not much else...

Awesome Place

Great place to visit or relocate to. Lots of friendly people, a lot of history there and beautiful scenery. If you like snow well they get that too.

Cold Sanitized Environment
By ,
Security way to tight, nasty officers. A glass and marble environment (cold) for such national treasure set into a modern building with a security check in that looked like a temporary out house (those are the words of the Park Ranger that gave us directions) , no music or overhead historical mode setting acoustics, just go see it and get out of here attitude. Mixed into the photo presentation before you actually get to the bell where some photos of the old location now that to me was a more suitable venue. I got more National Pride at Disneys hall of presidents. . I agree with one of the other posters it is something every American should see.

Witness America's history through the eyes of the Liberty Bell
By ,
The only two things that I instantly recalled about the place is a little bell and the tight security. As one of the world's most famous symbols of freedom, the Liberty Bell has witnessed many historic events in America's struggle for liberty, and these colorful stories are explained in the exhibits leading up to the bell. The significance of the bell in America's history and the free entry make this place a worthwhile stop, despite the hassle of getting through security.

Once in a life time experience
By ,
Like the title states, this is once in a life time thing for me. There is a lot of history behind the bell - we all know it. What annoys me most is the security guards. Not just one or two of them, but a bunch of them. I just wanted to see the bell for a few seconds and probably took a few pics of that and it took me more than ten mins to get through the security guards and they had to check everybody just like what they do to people at the US airport. Seriously, it is not a major destination for a terrorist attack. I see no point why they have to make the place look really unattractive with the guards.

If you're in Philly......why not?
By ,
The Liberty Bell is a national treasure and everyone should see it. However, it can get really crowded in the afternoon so my advice is go early.

Our freedom continues on...
By ,
Seeing the Liberty Bell should make people grateful for the sacrifices made by our founding fathers so that we could enjoy all that we do today. I feel that seeing the Liberty Bell evokes a sense of patriotism like nothing else can. The only negative feeling I had while visiting was the irony of the situation that the bell that told the world of our freedom and independence from tyranny is now under such tight security that it's not "free" itself.

Very Interesting
By ,
I'm Canadian and this whole city was just awesome - a completely different feel and atmosphere than any Canadian cities. The importance and the significance of the Bell comes across as almost sacred and to actually see the real thing is really cool - I definitely recommend going.
