During the day this park is alive with skateboarders, sunbathers and dog walkers; at night couples stroll on romantic walks. The natural sanctuary of lovely trees and green grass is surrounded by one of the city's most upscale eating, shopping and residential districts. Renamed Rittenhouse Square in 1825 for esteemed clockmaker and astronomer David Rittenhouse, this spot is the ideal place to take refuge from modern distractions. The noise and traffic of the city seem to disappear a few steps down the path at any of the six gates.
I started out as a visitor from Dallas, TX and I liked it so much that I ended up moving here. This area of Center City has classic charm with a modern twist. The architecture is amazing and there are pleanty of places to eat and shop. If you don't feel like don't that... you can relax in the park and watch the dogs (and show dogs) walk by. If it is nice outside, I would suggest sitting at Rouge and people-watching. Expect it to cost you... there is a reason why this is a more exclusive part of Center City.
There's nothing better than a hotdog, a newspaper, and a bench in Rittenhouse Square!! It's so nice to have a little spot of quiet serenity in the middle of the city. My daughters and I love walking thru this area because of the natural AND manmade beauty!
My husband and I lived on the Square and absolutely loved it. The people are friendly, it's very clean and there are dozens of great restaurants and bars to choose from. The stores are wonderful and the park is usually full of people and their dogs!
