National Shrine of St. John Neumann

Description

National Shrine contains the tomb of St. John Neumann, a Redemptorist priest and the fourth Bishop of Philadelphia. St. John was born in Bohemia and moved to the United States, where he was later ordained. St. John is remembered as the founder of Catholic education in America, and for his compassion toward immigrants. He learned to speak several languages so he could listen to confessions in at least six languages. His remains lie under the altar where daily mass is offered.

A Great Place to Find Peace
By ,
The people of this parish seem to be very accepting of the people who come to their church. I found this church to be filled with such peace and holiness. The priets I've encountered also where very nice. Mass here is just a great experience!

Fascinating Saint in the flesh!
By ,
If you are in Philadelphia you should be checking out the St. John Neumann shrine. This has to be one of the best religous pilgrimages. Not only can you view St. Neumann in repose as a permanent part of the altar but there is a fantastic exhibit that tells his story. Imagine living in a place where there were *too many priests* and you so desire to be a priest that you have to travel to the US to follow your calling! St. John Neumann's story is just fantastic and the museum that is directly outside of the chapel takes you on the journey by sharing a vast array of the saints personal effects. don't forget to read the stained glass!
