Tuttleman IMAX Theater at the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia

The IMAX theater at the Franklin Institute is a former Omnimax theater: the screen is dome-shaped like a planetarium. This makes for less-than-ideal viewing for mainstream movies formatted for IMAX. The picture is curved, projected toward the ceiling, and stretched so wide you can't see the whole screen at once. The effect is like sitting in the front row of a movie, and can be nauseating and uncomfortable as you try to turn and slouch for a better viewing angle. Also, the geodesic lines on the ceiling are visible when the picture fades to white. The Franklin Museum is fantastic including the Star Trek exhibit, and the IMAX theater is great as a planetarium and for short effects-driven IMAX movies. But for long-form mainstream movies, you're much better off finding a more typical flat-screen IMAX theater.
