Since 1939 this dining mainstay has been consistently rated as one of the area's best for having mastered the culinary art of creating authentic Philly cheesesteaks. Cheez Whiz, sauteed onions, mushrooms, and peppers are just a few of the extras that are always on call to top the thinly sliced rib eyes. Put them together on a long Italian torpedo roll and you have a sandwich masterpiece. The menu also offers several cheesesteak variations as well as soups and salads. Its late hours make it a favorite with the bar crowd.
We were in Philly for two days. Trying out different Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches was our mission.
I agree with what the food critics said - when it comes to Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches, it is all about what you like.
They talked so much about Jim's on the duck tours so we decided to pay a visit. If you like dry and flavorless steaks, this is where you need to be. I added the marinara sauce to mine. It was flavorless too.
Jim's is overrated. Staff was not friendly. Also, they do not accept credit cards. They need to hurry up and join the 21st century!
I went to this site before making my trip to Philly. I was planning on checking out Geno's but changed my mind when most of the reviews were about his patronism. I wanted a great steak sandwhich who cares about the service. Everyone was right Jim's was the best. My mouth is still watering. The steak was tender, the wiz was wonderful and the onions fantastic but the best part was the bread. I am definitly going back.
Maybe it was the fact it was 12 in the morning and I had not eaten since lunch that day, but these cheesesteaks are some of the best I have ever had. I got the classic steak with wiz and if I had more time I probably would have ordered a second. Also because it was so late there was not line what so ever. Awesome.
The staff is VERY RUDE. This was my first
and last time. I was in line when I got
to where the cook was he was busy cooking
the steaks and etc., so I went up to the
next worker to place my order, he said
you were suppoosed to give your order to
the cook in a very NASTY TONE and was
very mad. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE
SKILLS, after all the rudeness the
food was cold, cheese was not even
melted. The worst Cheesesteak I
ever had. I could not believe how
I was treated. I will be sure to
tell everyone I know NOT TO GO TO
Jim's Steaks, Phil. PA.
I have no idea why people rate Jim's so highly. I guess most of them never had a good cheesesteak! The meat is low quality and greasy. Steaks are not festhly prepared. You get meat scooped from a pile on the grill that has been stewing since who knows when.
Plus, you will have a long wait because they are so busy and pay a lot more than better places.
I read on Yahoo travel that it was a great place to eat and the fact is that Jim's is so great there is a line outside going around the corner for there famous steaks. I waited about 20 minutes outside in the freezing cold and another 15 in the warm air filled scent of the philly steak sandwich. And my review is that it is one of the best steaks sandwiches I have eaten,a great ending to my first trip to Philadelphia.
Spectacular cheese whiz cheese steak. The provolone is not bad, but the cheese whiz tastes 10 times better. Bit of a long line even during off peak hours (got there at 3pm), can't imagine for lunch time or dinner...however, MUST say it was definitely WORTH the wait!! Amazing!! Will definitely go back. Ample seating area upstairs. Reasonable prices as well.
