Over the Falls Tours
This Niagara Falls tour company offers the services of 23 guides and 12 air-conditioned vans escorting more than 65,000 customers on visits to the Falls . The company offers a choice of three guided tours, each including a ride aboard the Maid of the Mist . The tours offer the four-hour American/Canadian, viewing the falls; the four-hour American, featuring the Cave of the Winds ; and the Illumination, same as first or second tour, but including the nighttime illumination of the Falls.
The place is wonderfull, but the tour company is the worst. On top of everything it is very expensive and unreliable. We had to wait 1 hour until they got everybody on the bus and then another 2 hours to get to see the "Cave of the winds" when we were told that there will be a maximum of 45 min, wait. When we were informed about the wait we were already on the bus. So we had to go back to the agent by foot, and tell him to give us a refund. Not only was he rood to us he also started lafing in our face. We don't recomend this tour company to anybody!
I would NOT recommend this tour. The sights were beautiful, but the tour was painful. We started off 20 minutes late. We were rushed through our view of the falls, but spent 30 minutes in a mini-mart/Daredevil "museum". We were taken to the free tour of the power plant which was not on the itinerery and took up 45 minutes. The guide could not answer most questions. The tour took 5 1/2 hours not the 4 it advertised.
That being said, Niagara Falls is breathtaking and well worth the trip. If you go to Goat Island and Maid of the Mist, you can see all you need to.
I would NOT recommend this tour, you can see the major sites for about $22.50 by walking a short distance, and I mean a very short distance, but this tour company will charge you $70.00 per person. Most of the tour is spent going to places that are free to get into. We did NOT save any time by being a part of this tour, as our tour guide had to stand in line like everyone else, to get our group admitted. The tour guide was nice enough, but the 4 hour tour took us 6 hours, and that was a real problem for some guests. Go to and pay for the Maid of the Mist and the Cave of the Winds sites on your own and you will be much more satifisfied. Oh yah my favorite part, lunch was at a souvenir shop where boxes of pizzas were sitting out for you to pay for a piece that you then could microwave yourself. Souvenir shops are NOT equipped for people to sit and eat and this one was no exception. I feel really ripped off and that is not how a guest should feel when coming to a new town. Oh well, I have learned a valuable lesson and I hope you do too by not paying for this tour. Buyer Beware!
You can see the sights on your own easily! Nothing informative provided by the tour guide - one would be much better off just visiting the sights and moving on your on time table and saving time! The sights are within short distances of each other, so there isnt a need for the tour.
At the begining it sound like this was going to be a great experience the lady in the office was kind of nice. That was the only nice thing about this company, they pick us up 1 hour late, the guide was rushing all tour because the late start we did not see much of Niagara Falls, the guide was complaing all the tour about the low pay and the lack of tips lately. If you go to Niagara Falls (Great Place) don't use Over the Falls Tours. This lady was nasty to anybody that did not give her a tip.
Tour guide knew the area pretty well. We felt we were deceived by the person selling the tour to us and who also told us that the discovery pass was junk which was the pass we were going to buy. They give you a map that in itself is deceiving. The man selling us the tour made it sound like we would stop at all the places on the map which was not the case. To her credit the tour guide said that was not the case but at that point we were already on the bus. While the tour guide was helpful I think we could have done pretty well on our own without her. I would not recommend this company to anyone even though I felt the tour guide was fine. We also visited the daredevil museum/snack store which I am sure has a connection of some kind with this tour company as does the parking lot where we parked. I learned a lot on my trip to Niagara falls but despite the bad experience with this company I thought the falls were beautiful. So save your money and have a nice dinner somewhere. Buy the discovery pass which I believes gives you a shuttle ride to the falls but check that out for sure.
We happen to take the ALL AMERICAN ILLUMINATION TOUR scheduled to begin at 5:45 pm and end at 10 pm. The representative at the desk told us ALL the points in the tour will be covered in 4 hours without any problems despite the rush. Hence, I bought 4 adult tickets as we had 2 senior citizens. The tour started at ~ 6:15 pm.The bus driver told us that they will begin the tour with maid of the mist as the last trip there stops at 8:00 pm. Being summer the falls are actually NOT illuminated until after 9:00 pm so no illumination as the tour advertises. Later, there was huge crowd at maid of the mist and we ended up taking the last boat tour (still no illumination as advertised in the tour package). The tour guide/ bus driver asked us to return to bus by 8:30 pm when we finish our boat tour. However, only a few of the passengers (including us) came on time, while others returned at ~ 8:50 pm. Few of the passengers LEFT the tour since they were annoyed / bored of waiting. Then after everyone returned bus driver announced few of the attractions will not be covered as they are already closed and took us to daredevil museum. Please do not go by the name, this happens to be a souvenir shop and not a museum and wasted about 15 minutes there. Then she took us to Goat island and told us that is ALSO closed and so are the rest of parks or attractions and took us back to where the trip had begun. So at the end, we ended up taking ONLY the maid of the mist boat tour and paid 4 times the money that we had paid to the tourist company ( We paid 4* $50= $200 for 4 adults while the maid of the mist tour costs only 4*$13.50=$54). The company refused to refund the money for the part of the tour that was not completed. Please stay away from these people.
Seems like I should have taken more time reading reviews of this tour company than I did... I am afraid, like many others that have left a review, that we had very similar experiences, over an hour late pick up, rushing through the planned stops, driving by some all together, and being so behind schedule, that some sights were not able to be seen because of the fog... this was a waste of a WHOLE day. We could have easily seen those same sights for a lot less money and time on our own, as they are very close,,,, tour over an hour late and ended almost an hour early,,,, go figure that one out,,,,, would not recommend this tour to anyone.....Guide was very nice but not familiar with this tour, more familiar with the US tour and apologized the whole trip,,, he was a replacement for the original guide who was having a confrontation with a tour group,,,,, sound familiar.....if I could give this a negative rating I would,,,,
We took this tour and there is no way that you can see everything they promise in 4 hours. It was not worth the money -- we could have purchased the tickets for the attractions individually and paid less than 1/2 of the price of the tour.
Our tour driver rushed us at every turn. We would get to one spot and briskly walk through it, then he would herd us back to the bus.
Speaking of the bus, it was a shuttle bus with screen printing advertisements all over the windows. We couldn't see most of the items the tour driver pointed out along the way and forget about taking pictures.
The Maid of the Mist was a blast (ticket cost $12.50 on your own). It was amazing to be in the swirling eddys of the water under the falls. You're going to get wet. But, it was well worth it.
The Cave of the Winds was probably the most fun (ticket cost $10.00 on your own). You go right up to the falls and are close enough to touch it and let it fall over you - you definitely see it up close. Again, you're going to get wet ... but you have to get wet to get that close. It was wonderful.
Our tour cost about $60.00 a person. Way too much for what we were able to see in the 4 hour timeframe alloted by the tour company.
Do it on your own, if you have the time -- or at least, get the Niagara Falls Passport which is sold for $28.00 and you get access to everything!
We should have read the reviews BEFORE we went.
we went on a tour of Niagara Falls with over the falls tour, we booked at a rest area with a very nice person, but fell we were riprd off big time. I would NOT recommend this. The tour itself was ok we did cave of the winds first and were soaked for the rest of the tour, not very comfortable since it was in May the weather was not that warm. then we did maid of the mist. that was fine. We then road to the whirl pool which was free, then to the power plant that was closed. end of tour which cost us $145.00 for two. Not worth the money. DO NOT book at a rest area.
