Not what it used to be.

Three or four years ago, Artpark was our favorite place to go. We saw Richie Havens during one of the free Tuesday evening concerts a few years ago and had an amazing night. It was an older crowd then and everyone was respectful and attentive. It was a beautiful night. We had quite a few beautiful free concert nights after that, always picnicking beforehand near the escarpment, but we began to see a change a couple of years ago. The entertainment turned toward a younger crowd and it began to get more crowded and rowdier. Huge crowds congregated right in front of the stage dancing and drinking, kids playing ball and frisbee in front of the performers during the concert--it all detracted from the entertainment and made us wonder if people were there to listen and enjoy or to party. It was so crowded that it sometimes took close to an hour to get out of the parking lot after the show. After spending $100 to see Celtic Woman last summer, spending 45 minutes in traffic in the village just to get to the parking lot, searching for a good 20 minutes for a place to park, the auditorium so packed and hot that we couldn't breathe, and we ended up staying outside after intermission and listening from the courtyard and leaving early so we could be home before the immense crowd began leaving, we've decided not to go back this year. It's such a shame. In the past it was a great place to spend an evening, but it's poorly managed now, and the younger crowd has taken over for the most part. Until and unless things change, we won't be back.
