This restaurant in Niagara's Little Italy, has been pleasing palates since 1945. The third generation of the Fortuna family now runs the restaurant, and they continue the tradition of using the freshest ingredients possible. A faithful clientele guarantees they're definitely doing something right. Main courses include handmade gnocchi, ravioli, steaks, veal, poultry, and fresh seafood. Don't ask about the salad dressings and sauces, as they are closely guarded secrets. Nearby attractions include the Falls, Niagara Falls State Park, and Niagara Aerospace Museum.
Although we love the veal, the raviolli's are great too! If you have never eaten at Fortuna's- you dont know what you are missing! This place is great for parties or just a romantic evening. Dont forget, they have take out as well.
Being new to the area, my wife and I spent many weekends exploring Italian restaurants on the Niagara peninsula and Western New York. We settled on Fortuna's even though we must drive an hour to eat there. I echo the others in that the food is outstanding, especially the veal and their sauce. I deducted a single point from "Ambience" since the tables are a little close to each other and they like to seat folks next to one another, even when not busy (which is rare!). That said, that is trivial next to the great food and service this place provides. Long live Fortuna's!!!
I have to admit - the last review here of just a week or so ago had me double-thinking about trying Fortuna's. But - being in the statistics business, I know what a 'flyer' is and how anecdotal events can be totally unrelated to a trend.
I'm really glad I took the word of the other reviewers. The service was top-notch, the food excellent, and the overall experience very pleasant. I got the Veal Parm. with a side of pasta Alfredo. The Veal was tenderized almost paper-thin and delicious. Not overdone at all (the usual downfall of most restaurants). The cheese is a 'special' blend - and though tasty - I'll probably opt for the standard mozzarella the next time I go (an option given and clearly stated on the menu). The red sauce is obviously homemade and excellent. The Alfredo was one of the better I've had, and the fettucine pasta was done to perfection - again, not overdone. My salad was the house Italian (excellent) over dry, crumbled Bleu cheese. Cold, crisp, and plentiful. And the bread was fantastic - crusty on the outside, and chewy/doughy on the inside and it actually had some taste. So many 'Italian' twists today have great texture but are virtually flavorless. This bread had some real body to it.
About the only weakness was the wine. I asked for a glass of the 'house' Chianti and it was just fair. Not bad, but only fair.
I'll definitely be going back. It's 'old school' Italian cuisine in all the best ways.
My parents and grand parents have dined at Fortuna's since they opened. I have eaten at many Italian restaurants around the world and this is the best! The sauce is like Mom's and the Gnocchi is delicious. The veal is always fresh and the house salad is great. We dined while on our honeymoon and always have fond memories!
my aunt was born in niagara falls and lived off hyde park blvd. whenever we visited from saratoga springs ny we were always treated to dinner at fortuna's. the veal is outstanding and i can still taste the sauce! its whats good in niagara falls.
I can only tell you that this former falls resident thinks that this is the best italian restaurant bar none. I always eat here whenever I am back in the falls. I have travelled the world and can honestly that this is the best mom and pop italian anywhere!!
