Grand Central Terminal

Description

Built in 1913, Grand Central Terminal is impressive even to New Yorkers, particularly the massive main hall with its cathedral-like vaulted ceiling. The building is beautiful with chic shops and a food court lending an air of urban charm, not an easy feat for a railway station that is filled with a half million commuters each week. The bar at Michael Jordan's The Steak House overlooks the busy terminal. Dine at the legendary Oyster Bar for great shellfish. The Vanderbilt Hall within the station is also the site of numerous cultural events, so check out the website for the latest in the station's support of artistic endeavors. The station services outlying suburbs via the Metro-North Commuter Railroad.

Places To Visit In NYC: Grand Central Terminal
By ,
Of all the places in New York City, Grand Central is clearly a favorite for many. If you take a minute to stop, you can observe so much about New York and its culture. You’ll see people who are old, young, short, tall, fat, and or skinny. You’ll also see people who are in a rush to get to there destination, and those who are there just to enjoy the view. Grand Central is a large and beautiful place, so large that I often find myself spotting something new in the terminal on a daily basis. The high ceiling in the main concourse known as the The Sky Ceiling is a work of art ,so much so that you should worry about whip lash. Read more @ fieend .com/grand-central-terminal

Audio Tour of Grand Central !!! :)
By ,
Since Grand Central Station was on alot of "things to see" in New YOrk my family and I figured, its just a train station, so we put it off til our last day in the city. We figured stop in take a look and leave. My wife suggested we try the audio tour which my kids seem to love at all the museums, so I figured why not. We ended up spending the whole day at this beautiful building. The audio tour was full of historic information and all kinds of fun little secrets, it was super cheap as well. If you visit this wonderful building, take the Audio Tour!!!

Don't miss Grand Central Terminal!!!
By ,
Our City Sights tour guide took us off the bus to Grand Central Terminal. My first thought was to stay on the bus, but WOW what I would have missed!!! It is absolutely beautiful. For some reason I had a vision of a dark and dreary place - so not the case!!! Amazing!

Very cool - reminds you of another era
Also reminds me of Victoria Station a little bit in London. Love the crowds, the Dining Court, the market, and the architecture. Don't forget to go outside and stand across the street for a photo of the golden clock at the top of the builidng.

Grand Central Secrets
By ,
I would recommend a visit to Grand Central. It is free, unless you wish to eat or travel. Free tours are available Wednesdays at 12:30pm at the Information Booth. A couple of secrets to look out for... 1. Look up at the amazing ceiling in the main hall and find the brick that they left as it was before the restoration - huge before and after contrast – a clue, it is above Michael Jordan's Steakhouse. 2. Find your way down to the Lower Concourse and into the food court area. There is a place nearby with a arched ceilings. It is a whispering wall (such as the whispering gallery in St. Paul's Cathedral, London). One person can stand one side of this area and talk quietly and the other person can hear every word that person is saying, even though they are right over the other sides from each other.

Marbulous HAHAHA
By ,
All Marble. The constellation's on the ceiling were great. Huge Huge spacious. And the marble made it great. We took a train into the Station. And had a blast all the way. People making out in subway but. In the actual Terminal. It was just ordinary New Yorker's Rushing to Work or wherever they needed to go. The style of this building is something everyone should see.

Stunning Architecture
By ,
I recently visited the USA for the first time and went with my nephew to New York via Grand Central. Grand Central was easily the most beautiful thing I saw that day. It's beauty is jaw-dropping. I am so glad it was saved from the bulldozers.
